His price doesnt mean hes not our best player Zat.

The point stands. Anything close to the £42mil paid and we should snatch someones hand off.

Pickford is clearly the best player in the squad...which shows in the end of season awards.

Sell a guy who's our best playmaker that can play in at least 3 different positions because he's not a box to box midfielder?

We should sell Pickford, too, because he can't play CB. Walcott has to go, too, because he can't play RB.

1-- He has had no competition as a playmaker. There was literally no one in the squad who could be classed as a playmaker.

2-- In a Marco Silva team he wont be played on the left as Silva always has pace out wide. In the central attacking midfield position he may well continue to be average to good over a season but not GREAT. Shouldnt be considered and wont be considered out wide.

3-- In the central attacking midfield position there are Lookman (racked up great numbers at Leipzig), Dowell (great numbers when played correctly at Forest) and Vlasic (shown flashes).

He doesnt have the playmaking ability of Dowell...skills or pace of Lookman and as yet Vlasic is still an unknown quantity.

He'll lose his place there by season end.

4-- In the centre midfield there are Gana/Baningime/Davies who should be retained. He can compete there with a new signing.

5-- At 28 before septembers 29th birthday hes still 'in his prime' and should command a decent fee say £35mil if he has a good world cup.

For £35mil that can go in the pot for a better player.

...it’s a glorious Sunday morning and the papers are full of Real Madrid. I think all the Everton rumour mill reporters are still on the lash, but here’s what’s being said;

- According to the Liverpool Echo, Wayne Rooney is keen to push through a transfer to DC United and Ramiro Funes-Mori is the subject of interest from Mexican side, Monterrey.

- Whilst Everton can expect a call from Sevilla regarding the availability of Sandro Ramirez, the regional Seville newspaper, Estadio Deportivo suggests the club could also acquire the services of goalkeeper, Joel Robles, who’s contract is up this summer.

- Colombian newspaper, E Heraldo, say: ‘Everton of England would be interested in hiring the services of the left side of the Colombian team, Frank Fabra, who currently plays in Boca Juniors’.

....other stuff;

- The Daily Star Reports Farhad Moshiri is looking to take total control of Everton this summer with the purchase of more shares which could see the departure of Chairman, Bill Kenwright.

- Dutch outlet, Algameen Dagblad, say Philip Cucu is in Marcel Brands thoughts for the vacant Managers position at Everton.

- The Liverpool Echo report Everton are still in talks with Marco Silva and intend to appoint him as their new manager.

None of those players have any real prem experience and...

Before you think I have lost the plot....watch for running players, check out Naismiths movement for a second.
THAT is the reason we were shocking last season...no movement, no confidence and no clue. That is not an individual players error it appears to be systemic one. Dowell wont help that on his own...we need a progressive manager who understands the pass and move philosophy ...if he can get our attackers to remember that most basic skill ...it will unshackle players like Siggy and Walcott you see !!!

Having a progressive manager means that he will want to play a certain way. If you take the example of Silva then I cant see where Sigurdsson fits into the team in season 2019/2020

At that point he and (another daft signing) Walcott will be 30.

The question really is whether Brands would sell sigurdsson and walcott for £35mil and £25mil respectively and find players who offer more value.

Literally no outfield players (over 21) should be safe bar Coleman.

So Dowell played well for half a season then his form dropped substantially, considering that's at a club in the championship that's not good enough. Siggy is one of the few players this season who actually improved us.
Would prefer both lookman and vlasic to stay out on the wings which also plays into Silvas strategy.

Progressive style in CAM-playing favored one touches?

At that point he and (another daft signing) Walcott
Lol

You'd play Lookman and Vlasic (2 players better centrally) out wide to stick with someone who was average last season? Not sure how that logic works...

Please see the Dowell thread to understand why his form went down at Forest but not in the England u21s.

One touches? Sigurdsson.

lol

Hes never been a one touch player in that position in his entire career.
His first time at Swansea he was the tiki taka supremo and made things click and the reason AVB brought him to Spurs.

Granted, second time at Swansea they did not play such a style.

It is exactly his style. Plus he is a deadly shooter, and our best shooter. Even in a progressive style, you need guys who can score from outside the box both in open play and from dead balls, actually even more so than when you play this hood ball nonsense.

Both players are used very well out wide, lookman and vlasic both played on the wings for there previous clubs, I'm sure they can both play in the central midfield but I doubt they are strong enough yet so sticking to someone who can create things out of nothing isn't a difficult to understand.
Ahh yes because this forum is filled with tactical experts, read what the manager said about dowell.

Wasnt playing one touch through balls in the centre though was he, was out wide on the left.

Agree on taking shots from outside the box...have you seen some of dowells for example?

Perhaps Dowell could give him some coaching.

Gosh...it doesnt take a 'tactical expert' to understand that going from being the main man in an attacking side to being played out of position in a defensive long ball team is going to negatively affect dowell.

Lookman youre comparing to his charlton days whereas im comparing to this season tearing up England u21s and the Bundesliga.

You must go through a heck of a lot of players on FIFA18 career mode, Zat.

You aren't wrong, but he can do that centrally as well or in behind a striker in a back 3. Last time we played progressive football we lumped Kones and Cleverleys on the left, its a massive upgrade and not one I can imagine many complaining about.

I've seen some luny comparisons made between him and Silva, Xavi etc on this board. But Dowell is the closest. So you are on the right track, only he would be the perfect coach for Dowell. Very similar on the ball, both cut in and hammer the net from outside the box.

Right now we're deprived in CM, need a new LB (maybe 2), and many seem to stress importance of a CB. But most importantly we need to drain the damn swamp, squad of 40 players is way, way to big and not sustainable. I just dont see how were going to get a new attacking mid or winger (let alone 2) through the door.

Sigurdsson, Dowell, Walcott, Lookman, Vlasic and one new signing is ace heading into the new season. And the opportunity here is there are plenty of guys who can play across the line, and aren't fixated to one position.
