You could be right, who knows? But if we are to believe that both players were offered significant deals to stay and sign, I doubt that would have been done if RK was not keen or arsed about either one of them. For me, too much has been made of Koeman's original response in a prezzer to the situation with Barkley having only one year left and still unsigned. He was being completely pragmatic, yet from that the conspiracy-theorists have gone to town on Koeman not rating Ross. Notice how quiet Koeman has gone on this since then? Maybe he's learned to not say things that can be wildly interpreted...

Koeman does want to keep Rom, he's said a few times last season that he would but he hasn't really been as forthcoming with Ross. He said a deal was there for him, a good one, but said if he doesn't sign then he will be put up for sale and it seems as if that is gonna be the case. By all accounts Koeman as it in his mind that Barkley isn't staying and he's moving on and pushing to get targets in to replace him whilst it seems Kenwright is still pushing to keep Barkley?!

Yeah but I don't blame Koeman for doing that because at the end of the day Barkley has had this offer on the table for months and yet he's been advised to hold it off and wait and see what interest there is in him come the summer so he's got in the back of his mind he'd fancy leaving so I think Koeman has every right to say look, there's a deal there for you to stay but if you don't fancy it then away you go.

For me, same goes for Lukaku. We would like to keep him but if you don't want to stay, and he clearly doesn't, then on your bike!
I agree. I can't help but suspect Barkley is getting some poor career advice, and Ross, not being the sharpest knife in the drawer, is under-equipped to identify this.

Mate Mbappe is being bandied around at 87-100m for a lad whose done it one season in the french league and had a good CL campaign

I know and that's just ridiculous imo! But even at 18, you look at him and even he's on a different level technically to Lukaku and you can see why the likes of Real Madrid want him and for as much as the quoted price.

Totally agree. The advise he's had from his agent, to wait and see what comes out of the summer, probably based on certain clubs going to him saying they'd like Barkley etc, is gonna turn out to be a big mistake as it seems the interest in him is waning!

I don't really. You do usually pay a premium for English players/talents, it's always been the case. And I know Pogba went for what he did but that's nothing to do with us! I'd honestly say that Lukaku is worth around £65-75m. Your talking about a player that only scores goals. Now that sounds stupid but the rest of his game isn't all that. He's not a world class player. Like I've mentioned before, the likes of Aubameyang & Lacazette are available for around €50-65m, so what's that, around £45-60m plus?! Both players are goal scorers and technically better players than Lukaku. Both have done it in their respected leagues and Europe for years now and are available for less so I'm kinda going by their valuations when it comes to Lukaku. I just don't think he's worth more than them. What did Suarez go for? £80-90m? Lukaku is nowhere near in his class so I don't see how he could be worth more than him?!
Suarez was 3 years ago mate....prices have gone nuts since.
And the other 2 you mention (good players mind) have not consistantly scored goals every season for the past 3/4 seasons.
This is a club that eak's every cent out of a transfer and are always above market rate for our assets.
IF...they have put £100 mil fee out there that is the price his agent will have to pedal to potential suitors.
If not he can stay , the club's in a very strong position here.

Thing is mate we are looking at our players weaknesses and comparing that to say Mbappe, look at the players strengths and Lukaku is massively more proven in a top league, and is a mile ahead of him as a pure finisher

CM: Gueye, Schneiderlin, Davies, Barry, McCarthy, Besic
CAM: Klaassen, Barkley

Strikers: Calvert-Lewin (assuming Lukaku goes)

Let's sign another center mid!!!

We do need strikers and I'm sure we will go for some but look at that list of CM's, who there is a genuine holding mid, a DM?! Barry possibly but he's knocking on and his legs have gone. Schneiderlin currently plays that role for us but I wouldn't say he's a genuine DM. And the rest are very similar in style imo although some are better than others. So if Schneiderlin gets injured for a while, who do we have to cover him or even play in that position to free up Schneiderlin to play in a more advanced role in CM when everyone is fit?

Koeman in his first season at Southampton had both Schneiderlin and Wanyama in CM with Davis and Wanyama was the holding mid that screened the back four and Schneiderlin played more box to box and was outstanding that season and maybe Koeman is looking for a genuine DM to be able to free up Schneiderlin on occasions so that he can get a grip of the game and put his passing ability into play further forward?!

The CIES Football Observatory have released their valuations of 110 players across the continent.
Their figures are founded on an algorithm, based on the thorough analysis of almost 2,000 paying fee transfers.
The variables through which transfer values are modelled notably include the performance of both players and their clubs, as well as international status, contract, age and position.
And through that study, Lukaku has been valued at 105.4 million euros – or just over £93 million

Whilst I agree, he isn't worth £40m, I do think now as bigger spenders we are going to have to face the current position re: taking the best players from the lower clubs.
Looking at Swansea, along with Llorente, Sig' nearly single handedly dragged them away from relegation. So take him out, factor in that Swansea couldnt afford a guaranteed like for like replacement, and they are perilously close to being relegated. The cost of that is in the tens of millions if not more.

So our transfer policy, dumb down of course, is going to be either:

Players from abroad (potentially unproven)
Players that the top sides have but will let go (few and far between)
Players that are too good for their respective lower PL sides but will cost top money.

It was the same with Bolasie last season. 28m or whatever is ludicrous but he was arguably Palace's best player so he was worth that to them.

I'm sure the above is obvious to everyone. I just think we have to face facts that 40m for Sig' is probably about right when you consider everything, not just quantifying his ability into a transfer fee.

Personally, i'd buy him. But I am a lunatic.

Spot on mate
