Summer Transfer Window 2017

Didn't realise Pickford had played that many games already, which worries me more as after 140 games he should now be able to work out were to place himself.
I don't believe he will be great in a few years and certainly don't think any of the "big" teams would want him as a starter, he may go to one to warm the bench and boost their home grown quota.
Of goalkeepers from this league who could be signed in the summer I'd want Butland, Hart or even Heaton higher than Pickford on our list

Butland was great last season, however we need to see if hes over his injury...
Hart makes some amazing saves (like robles) but then concedes weird goals (more howard than robles)
Heaton I cant really comment on and cba to check but isn't he over 30 and couldn't you put him in the same level as pickford?

I like Butland a lot, he should be first choice for England if he recaptures his form...but Pickford has a huge amount of potential and is already a top keeper from what ive seen of him. Not as good as butland, Courtois, lloris or de gea but not worse than any others in the league from what ive seen

Just out of curiosity, what's the obsession/ eagerness to sign English players, notice quite a lot on here wanting us to sign English players. Just wondering are there specific reasons?

Basically we're in dire need a whole new defensive-line. Seamus Coleman out for at least 8 months, Baines is getting slower and incapable of taking players on these days, Jags is getting on a fair bit and I don't think Funes-Mori CB-style doesn't suit the EPL.

Unfortunately, yes, but we won't bring them all in at once. I think Holgate is locked in at RB until Seamus returns/can be fully assessed. Baines will remain LB, but we should be seeing some competition for him with new blood. And we should see 2 CBs (unless Koeman thinks Pennington will do the job) pushing out Williams/Jagielka for these spots. I expect 1 will be brought in with the expectation to start immediately, and the other pushing his way into the team. Not sure about RFM's future, but I don't expect he can be assessed or sold until next January at least.

Looking at keepers Norman has preferred in the past, don't see him going for pickford mate, he seems to like massive ones and isn't pickford only like 6 foot?

Must admit butland everry day for me, makes the goal look small, the other day pickford made it look big if that makes sense.

And would these 4 start

To be fair to the ever mental Zat, Pickford and Keane would - and probably will if Ste Walsh gets them done.

Sessegnon and Abraham are talented but still in a position where they'd be waiting - either via loan or working with Unsworth and his 23s.

It's basically like Football Manager at the minute, thinking we can buy whoever and not worrying about squad balance because we'll just find a way. Doesn't work like that in reality.

There is NOTHING wrong with Robles distribution!

This is getting mad now. Unless people are judging his goal kicks etc which is a nonsense as every keeper will just hoof it in a general direction then what is actually wrong with it? He can throw the ball out pretty well (There was a boss one in the Leicester game where he hauled the ball half the length of the pitch straight to Mirallas (I think it was him).

Its also worth pointing out that as great as our front man is, winning balls in the air that have been pumped down the field is not his strongest attribute to put it mildly.

Its fine!

Didn't Robles set up one of the goals against City as well? He's not bad, this Robles lad. We should give him a run in the first team to see if he can stick.

@nsno-chris @USABlue

@Connor is right, Pickford and Keane would start. One being a hugely talented keeper and 'available' from a relegated side (soon) and the other massively linked and with a year left on his contract. I want us to bring in defenders who have 'pace' and from what I read on here Keane is the quickest in the burnley side. Signing him and with Holgate to his right means that side is sorted and allows us to play a high defensive line as long as we sort the left side out.

Pickford has the best distribution in the league and if we do have a high line he can act as a 'quarterback' (yes I used that word lol ) and we then have the ability to pin teams in their own half.

We have signed DCL, Holgate and Galloway for reasonable fees and 11mil odd for Lookman. If Walsh is serious about hovering up the best young talent then Sessegnon looks to be a potential superstar at left back and I doubt being behind Baines would faze him as hes smashed the championship at 16. Abraham could well be the (EDIT:eventual) replacement for Lukaku or at least a very good 'lukaku-lite' player on the bench.

@bluestevon I'd probably take Butland over Pickford and at 6'5 he's 4 inches taller BUT our only hope is to offer huge money for him and hope stoke would sell as they don't want to risk another long term injury...Pickford is the more likely signing I think as hes available.

I think these 4 signings would be good.

1 first choice keeper
1 first choice centre back
1 squad left back
1 squad centre forward

All of them will end up being England internationals I think.

@BrendanGOT I cant speak for others but at the moment we have, Holgate/Davies/Lookman who seem like theyre potential England players as well as Barkley of course. There's a couple of reasons why I like the idea of having England players;

1 -- Improves our standing in the English media + globally to showcase the club
2 -- Players want to play for their country and if we have England players then others will want to join to play with them and get into the England side themselves,
3 -- Similar to 2, young local lads will want to be signed by walsh as they see us giving opportunities to English kids and have a better chance for games than other sides who sign foreign kids...they get to play with England internationals and recognition of their talents to southgate
4 -- We need to have home grown players, better to have the best ones we can get
5 -- Over the years, the best sides usually have a solid core of English players with foreign stars added
6 -- Very good to harvest a club culture and camaraderie with a lot of local players
7 -- Long term, meaning that generally English players will stay at a club longer than foreign players who may want to go abroad/homesick
8-- Strength in numbers so no tapping up on England duty, we would be the ones tapping up other internationals

Also, I think it would be cool to have several England international players in the team. if we signed butland/pickford and keane then add in barkley and potentially davies + one or two others and we would have 4+ lads in there...
