It's not over yet mate but please do not overhype Robertson he'll rot there and be sold on. Typical RS moneyball signing. Honestly not worth fretting about.

As for Baines, no idea why he nor Williams are being written off for this forthcoming season, honestly baffles me as I think they will both offer a lot this season especially with a much improved midfield infront of them. Baines especially as he's not had anyone on his wavelength since peanuts left us
Baines cant close down, head a ball, or cross a ball. We start with a disadvantage straight away when he he's named in the XI to start.

You think Baines is a better bet than Robertson at this stage of their careers? Pffft! You cant have watched either last season then.

Baines is an utter liability now. It's sentiment that's fastening him onto a starting spot. I bet he cant believe his luck he's still here in that role when just two seasons or so ago he couldn't hold down his place.

Handy rule of thumb with our ambitions: if Baines starts games we've accepted the mediocre status allotted to us.

Yup i watched Robertson about 4-5 times last season Dave, he is not very good and if he was 28 no one would even talk about the lad.

Name one single thing Robertson does better than Baines Dave?

You don't personally like Baines, basically it colours your view to an extent that you'd actually pay decent money to bring in inferior players to replace him - such a shame really.

Linked with this guy a few times.

KRUSE 'ALLOWED TO LEAVE'

Werder Bremen sporting director, Frank Baumann, says that MaxKruse wants to leave the club, say Bild. He is reportedly a Chelseaand Liverpool transfer target and scored 15 goals in 24 games last season.

The 29-year-old can play in multiple roles through the middle and is available at €18m (£16m).

Baines cant close down, head a ball, or cross a ball. We start with a disadvantage straight away when he he's named in the XI to start.

Yet in a side that enjoyed far more possession thus less defensive duties needed, Baines made more blocks (closing down), won more aerial duels (head a ball) and had much greater number and success rate with crossing (or cross a ball) than Robertson did mate.

Care to explain how he managed that and why we should have gotten Robertson who is clearly inferior to Baines in all 3 of those areas?

Glad to have you back David

Are you talking about defender with most assists from crosses in "history of PL" Leighton Baines?

Having looked at the stats he now has almost double the assists of Gary Neville and Ashley Cole who played in the most dominant teams of their eras that scored 50% more goals than Everton and had Van Nistelrooy / Drogba to aim at rather than Anichebe.

I'm not with you apart from his ten-bob head. His crossing and cross field passing is as good as it's ever been, he looked for rom on the diagonal loads and his first touch and getting marshalled off the path of the ball, he often signaled for, ended up coming to nothing!
Baines' positioning is as good as you'll see he stands players up and slows down attacks really well. His ability to do that and pick intricate passes had Martinez wanting him to become a centre mid. He's too good to rightoff in my opinion. So as no one else apppears to be coming in let's hope he doesn't match your evaluation or we are screwed!

Because he made Roberto do a sad face :( and Dave can NEVER forgive that. And also, facts are not important to Dave in his quest to do Everton, Walsh and Koeman down.

Did someone just say Baines crossing is as good as it's ever been?

Last season average per game:

Tackles won :
Baines 1.56 Robertson 1.09

Blocks made:
Baines 0.19 Robertson 0.45

Clearances made:
Baines 2.59 Robertson 2.88

Interceptions:
Baines 1.37 Robertson 1.79

Aerial Duels Won:
Baines 40.35 Robertson 47.62

Squawka.

...so the answer to your question is 'everything defensively except tackles won'.

...I suspect he'll be well known to our scouting network from playing for the Manchester City academy for many years and he was high profile in the U20 tournament this summer.
It's just an odd one because he couldn't get in the first team squad so I should of expanded my question to looking at their reserve/under 23's. His manager has said he couldn't play him because there isn't enough quality around him, is that not an oxymoron?
Excuse my ignorance I'm just curious how we've evaluated him now, can't really pay much to school boy level....I still have nightmares about how excited I got when we got George Green!
