Dave is right to suggest that Baines is not the player he was....he has not been at his best or even close to it since his injury, and seems to be going through the motions, staying out of trouble most of the time. He was never a great defender, and never was able to stop crosses coming in to our area from the opposing right wing, his best attribute was always his attacking flair. His attacking capability has deteriorated along with the loss of pace...he dare not venture too often upfield because he gets stranded. I think he'll be first choice this season if he stays fit, but it may well be his last as our primary left back. If by January it looks like Baines is a weak link, we may well be in the market for a replacement, or stiff competion for Leighton, who in any event has had a superb career.

Ben Davies at Spurs would be a good choice, as mentioned elsewhere on GOT, he knows Ashley's game, can play LB or CB if needed. He is second choice behind Rose, when he comes back. IMO he could be first choice LB with us. If we can do a deal involving Ross , that would be good or a stand alone bid may be worth our while.
Would cost a fortune

Barkley doesn't go cry arseing to the local press or agitating in the squad.

And there is the reason for your problem with baines... baines has been a model pro all his career apart from that instance... don't you think things must have been so bad that he had to do that? He never held the club to ransom and ran his contract down..

Also you have conviniently changed the subject and dodged the point I was making...

You can't claim koeman is sentimental after slating him for his treatment of Barkley ... again... your just talk rubbish to get a reaction/suit your agenda

Real Madrid will apparently allow Mateo Kovacic to leave, IF this is true we should at least try a bid for him. Could be the marque signing we need.

Towards the end of the window there will be more and more fringe players from top clubs who become available. Everyone wants to play regularly in World Cup year so they'll push for moves where they ordinarily might not either permanently or on loan.

I can only repeat with a better midfield and a forward who can control the ball I expect Baines to improve again in that aspect. He's technically proficient, he views the pitch well (as from full back you should) he really can pick consistent probing passes.

Almost as important, he's not going to make runs if he doesn't think people can control the ball... or even worse people won't pick the right pass (the ball behind he back line into space he's running into - like Pienaar used to)

If Everton were interested in Max Kruse in May, would we still have any need for him now after the arrivals of Davy, Sandro and Rooney?

He knows he'll start kicking up a stink and is keeping him onside.

That seems obvious to me...as much as his diminishing powers are obvious.
Nah, Koeman is a competent manager he has no need to keep Bainsey 'onside' as it were. Only the utterly inept managers need fear our Leightons gentle admonishment.

Koeman ain't going to be influenced by any individual player. He is his own man, has his own ideas, and will quite happily boot someone out if he no longer thinks they are up to the mark.

.."ruthless" was the word Moshiri used. I just don't know where @davek gets the view that Koeman needs to keep Baines onside and is scared of a backlash from. Perhaps it's something Dave knows and @orly needs to add to his ITK index.
