Back then when Giggs got the ball for united their fans all stood up....something was going to happen and they couldn't miss it.

Same with us when we got Kanchelskis....he could get the ball on the halfway line and we all stood up,,,,

The only player we have of that ilk is Lookman...

Someone that an opposition fan would pay to watch...that was Kanchelskis all day long.

You've lost the plot Zat; lookman isn't even remotely close, in any form, to be on the same level as Andrei the Great.

Hes had handful of games in the PL, he's looked ok in a few but the rest he's looked totally out of his depth. Poor decision making, running into trouble, poor control.

 nonsense about his all round play, I'm personally offended on his behalf. Plus his open-play goals per game return is outrageous even for a City striker.

I'd still be very happy with Giroud, I'll be interested to see your opinion on how ol' Kelechi has done at Leicester by the end of the season though ;)
His goal return in the league is the same as Shane long make of that what you will.

He won't do a carrot at Leicester, doubt he'll get more than 12.

In summary he's basically niasse but had a few world class playmakers behind him

It's not necessarily that things fell through at the last minute, but I don't doubt that it would have been good for us to get some business done in January to a)put more pressure on the teams above us rather than we eventually did, and b) save us having to do so much business this summer. There was certainly talk of us wanting to bring more players in than we did, so it seems fair to assume things didn't go quite to plan.

I think our business has been reasonable so far. I'm pleased with a number of the signings we've made but we do still have a huge Lukaku shaped hole in the squad, haven't addressed the lack of creativity which has been an issue for about 10 years, and are relying on 2 aging centre halves to split enough games to get us through a potential 60 game season. I said the same last year - the manager of this football club wants more players. That's all there is to it really. If the manager thinks we need 4 more players, we need 4 more players, end of story. It's not people cryarsing, it's people agreeing with the bloke who picks the team. If we don't get those 4 players, we haven't done effective business, simple as that.

I definitely do agree with your point re. January mate. We should have really gone out for a striker I think - that target man that we need now - although it's doubtful one of the quality we need to replace Lukaku would have been available then I suppose.

On your second point.

We are looking to address the lack of creativity. In half, we already have. Koeman is wanting to play a different way to how we have for the last years under RM and even under Moyes to an extent.

Klaassen is the type of midfielder we haven't had in years - a player who actually creates space and opportunities for others and himself more by his movement than anything else. Koeman seems to really like this type of player, and I think that's why when Davies came into the team he made sure of his place as well.

We do need more, and Rooney has shown glimpses that he still has that ability but clearly our seeming intent to bid a high amount for Gylfi is addressing that.

We do need a CB and Koeman himself has said it - I'm sure we'll get one in.

I also agree on what you say about Koeman.

He said he wants 3 players. We're evidently going to go for three players. But the business we have done so far has allowed us breathing room so that we can go for our primary targets. In the meantime there will be players lined up, that we'll have looked at as alternatives.

He has no doubt benefitted from playing with great playmakers but he is an excellent finisher. Would be fantastic for us.

I mean, yea but also not really? Most of our targets that we got really only had us as an option. But we still lost Rom, we still have nobody who can be called a playmaker, we have no backup to our 30+ year old LB, our left sided CB is out for a year and we have 2 players out wide with pace.

I don't discount that we've brought in some good players, but these 2 are pretty much the bigger pieces that need to be made(and Im not saying they should necessarily be THESE two) and we are about 10 days before the start of the season and a BRUTAL fixture opening and you're saying 'we need to be patient'. In any other year, sure, since we didn't play 5 of the top 6 in our first 6 matches. But winning begets winning and losing begets losing and we need to be off to a flyer.

Klaassen? He was heavily linked with moves to Italy and other European clubs.

Pickford had the top six looking at him as well, and other Prem clubs.

Keane was supposedly on the verge of rejoining United or Liverpool (in fact, didn't plenty of articles from reliable journos say he turned down Utd in favour of first team football?).

Sandro was highly touted and Atletico Madrid were seriously interested.

Henri was a target of several European and PL clubs.

The only real player that 'had no other option' that we have brought in is Rooney...

So that first point, my apologies for being blunt, is nonsense.

The playmaker thing is in the process of getting sorted. The ball is in Swansea's court as much as it is ours.

The Giroud thing I'm sure will come to a head sooner rather than later but if we're wanting our no.1 target I don't care if we have to wait another two weeks to get him. He's a player, like Gylfi, good enough to slot right into any side without needing too much bedding in time.

He has no doubt benefitted from playing with great playmakers but he is an excellent finisher. Would be fantastic for us.

Is he though?

He's literally played a season-and-a-half for City.

He's alright. A promising talent. That's about it. I'd be happy if we did go for him but I won't be arsed that we haven't.

And he's not the type of player Koeman wants.

His minutes-per-goal over last two seasons is 104. Shane Long's is 286.

You may get me all in a flap with your purposefully bad opinions on Iheanacho, and I welcome it, but please at least try :(

I see exactly the same as you do, only I can 100% see why some people are concerned that we won't get the business done. It's clear that we want to bring certain players in, I just think it's a bit naïve to say 'don't worry it will all be in hand' when the experience of the last couple of windows tells us it might not be. There's clearly the possibility that we will sit tight and wait for our number 1 target, only to find that he doesn't come and it's too late to get 2nd and 3rd choices. That's obviously how we ended up getting Valencia and bidding an obscene amount for Sissoko last year rather than bringing in Mata and Witsel.

Going of league goals,
Shane long at Southampton is a 1 in 4, iheangasho is a 1 in 4 at city, and he's got some of the best playmakers in the world behind him.
