Summer Transfer Window 2017

So that's seven teams fighting for four positions, then there will be three teams classed as failures then mate ? Chelsea, Man City and Man United all had stronger squads than us and have spent and will spend more money than us. Arsenal and possibly Liverpool have stronger squads, hmmmm that doesn't leave Ronald much wriggle room does it.
Top six and get to a final /win a cup, would that do ?

Semi-finals are the true barometer of success IIRC.

A first team striker and centre back and we'll all be happy. Plenty of time to go until the transfer window shuts. Still confident the boss has targets in his sights which are attainable. Plus if we had signed Sandro for 25 million I doubt people would be as worried. Still.. we are one great striker short.

It's going to take a couple windows and some shrewd investment to get there, but if we bring in Sigurdsson, a proven target guy, and another defender, this year could be very interesting.

No, the other two losing out wouldn't be failures, because they are part of an elite and have got there by invariably securing CL spots even if they now and again dont get top four.

We need a CL spot or, failing that, just falling short of that in 5th and missing out by a few points. That's the target. If that isn't met and we fail again on the cups it is a season that will have failed.

But what about net spend?

Amazing you didn't hold RK's predecessor to the same standards though did you.

Just saying like

His predecessor did more with a lot less cash than this feller.

If he's going to spend £150M this summer there isn't anyone going to be offering him tea and sympathy if we finish 6th or 7th. That is not going to happen when the two previous managers secured better whilst spending the grand total of about 10 bob.

He's had his big spend. Now he needs to get the results.

Personally I dont see him doing it.

That's something the nominal owner has to worry about.

Depends what your goal is.

Want to be consistently holding the shirt tails of the top clubs, then keep on with this model.

Want to propel yourself into the mix as serious players? Then find a way to pump £50M/£60M in net spending in each transfer window for 2/3 seasons. He's already wasted one season in that respect...and I seriously doubt we'll see a massive net spend this summer.

But above you claim the only way to improve is to "£50M/£60M in net spending in each transfer window for 2/3 seasons", but now your saying net spend doesnt matter?

Im confused David, which is it? Net spend is important or not?

Cos now your claiming that only gross spend matters? Im just seeking clarity David.

Thats not true David.

Moyes spent 13m over 11 years to take us from 17th to 4th
Martinez spent 50m over 3 years to take us from 5th to 13th
Koeman has spent 10m to take us from 11th to 7th

Laughing at you hauling someone else up on 'inconsistency' over net spend.

Quite clearly I stated that was about 'consistently' 'propelling yourself into the mix as serious players'. That's what would be needed to do that: a couple of massive net spends.

All I'm asking for is top five....not much to ask when the manager will have spent £150M in the summer....or maybe you think we should expect f.a. from that spending?

No he didnt, thats contradicting what you have been squealing about all summer, that we havent actually spent anything. Are you calling yourself out?
