Summer Transfer Window 2017

It doesn't have to be one or the other, both sides can and should be improved in conjunction. As to the quality of the youth side, as good as it undoubtedly is ,history tells us very few will make the massive step up to adult football. We appear to be bringing in young players who are much closer in ability to first team football, and sourcing them from further afield, which is a good thing for me.
As for the first team , we are clearly finding it more challenging bringing in the last 3 players we need, than we did the first batch. We are not alone in this , and it is the nature of the transfer window. It isn't ideal but the transfer window is still open for a few more weeks yet, and for most this is a time when the main transactions take place. No need to panic, yet.

I agree.
Our U23's look as if they could make the step up to the first team and Koeman isn't scared of giving them their chance.
We do need a CF and a left sided CB though.
I think we will see the transfer market begin to take off next week.

Why? Who would you have?
Because it would be a huge downgrade from Lukaku. He doesn't look very strong or fast. He failed miserably the last time he was in the premiership. His goal scoring record is pretty average and he's nearly 30.

I'd rather have Bas Dost.

Just throw £25-30m at Juve for Mandzukic, offer him £125k+ a week, 3 year deal and whatever else he needs. Get it done, don't worry about whether we'll get a return on it as a transfer (we won't)

We need a star target man to lead the line. He's the one, go out and get him and then finish the Sigurdsson deal. Then get Hoedt or Ben Gibson at LCB.
Interesting shout mate. Since Higuain went there he's been played mostly out on the left of a front 3. However Juve have brought in Costa and Benardeschi as wide players this summer so I think he will be surplus to requirements. Worth a cheeky punt to test the waters.

@BlueToff , not.meaning to pick on you but here we are, right before the season begins. Your "we need to be patient", how's that working out?

It's working out just fine.

We've got a good squad - with some holes still to fill.

We're evidently working on deals, and there's over 2 and a half weeks left to get those deals done which we have shown we're capable of.

So, as always, let's see what the team looks like come September 1st instead of wetting our respective beds.

Even without any more new signings, we should have enough to win today.

I hope your right about today, but I'm a bit more worried about the next month of fixtures.

I don't think he'd cost that much. Dude is 31. But he SHOULD be playing as a true CF. He's a complete pain to his opponents and runs his tail off. Definitely a Koeman type player.

Honestly, he concerns me. Good link up play, skills are good, tricky with the ball, but is he a clinical finisher? Is he strong and tough enough to score with his head in the EPL? Is he lady enough to get behind a high line? Italy is a good league, but England is way more physical. It would be an adjustment for sure.

it does makes sense in a lot of ways. If we could sign Siggy, there would be some similarities to the way Fiorentina play with the bunch of outstanding center miss they have there.

Not sure he's a better alternative than some of the others floated around. HOWEVRR, if spending 25M on him allows us to get a legit ball playing CB as an alternative to Williams (like Lemos), maybe it's worth it.
Just goes to show mate. I watched the same clip and saw a completely different player to you. I accept it's just a 6 minute video but I didn't see a great deal of hold up or link play. What I saw was a player who is good in the air, has good movement in the box and likes to get on the end of crosses. Also looks comfortable with the ball played in behind and seems pretty quick for a big guy.

I was surprised by how much space he seemed to get in the box considering the Italians reputation for defending. Haven't seen that much of him as I don't follow the Italian league, but he does appear to have the qualities that would make him a good match for Siggy. Wouldn't be too upset if we went in for him at the price quoted given what a UK based player would cost.
