I’m pretty sure we’d have checked that the players would be willing to go before we offered them, otherwise the whole charade would be pretty pointless.

Or you see if the deal is feasible before making it clear to them that you are actively trying to send them out of the club. They'll probably know in the back of their heads that they're down the list now but Tosun pretty clearly wants to stay still and McCarthy might not be that anxious to go either.

Yes I agree, what if has a bad injury that could scupper a move. Also what if Zaha gets 15 goals next season palace will want a 100mil. Also Chelsea have spent 60mil on a wide player in pulisic and have Hudson Odoi would they really want to spend that type on a player they don’t really need and he will be nearly 28.

None of the other top 6 will want him. I actually think if he doesn’t go this summer. He will stay at palace until he’s about 30 and has 1yr left. What a wasted career.

Which is why basically it is down to him forcing Palace's hand. If he makes it clear that he will not be playing for them again and doesn't show up at the training ground for awhile they might cave. But if he is going to just accept it and go on with Palace they have no real reason to lower their price which is over the top at the moment.

Part of me takes it with a pinch of salt as we know the club dont ever comment on transfers officially.

Part of me thinks hes been fed a line by someone at the club and turned it into a statement.

If a reporter uses the word statement, he is saying that it is the club's public and official stance. I'd be shocked if that is not the case here. I have no idea if the statement itself is true, but I believe it really came from the club.
