Fair yeah.

Never heard so much conflicting info on one story in one hour or so lol

My only theory is probably the most popular one - Tosun/McCarthy probably not happy with being linked as essentially being given away/club don't want to devalue them in other moves.

I'm as perplexed as anyone though because Everton don't do this thing.

We gain that the squad doesn't feel like we are going around offering players to clubs on the sly without saying anything to the players first. If we made that bid and it got rejected without saying anything to Tosun or McCarthy, that move could upset the other players who now don't trust management to be upfront about their plans.

It also tells all clubs we bid 52m for Zaha.

Clubs wont ever be upfront with players ; the player is hardly going to be upfront with the club either. Or his agent.

Or you see if the deal is feasible before making it clear to them that you are actively trying to send them out of the club. They'll probably know in the back of their heads that they're down the list now but Tosun pretty clearly wants to stay still and McCarthy might not be that anxious to go either.
Oh come on, McCarthy was fit from October last year and I think got one run out. He’s not going to be shocked that we’re trying to offload him.

I don’t know how people don’t understand how these things work. The days of surprise moves have long gone, these things are played out through agents over long periods. Every single player that we want rid of will have known about it for ages, and their agents will have been looking at options for them. We’re not going to risk having a bid accepted for a club record signing only for it to fall through when the players were relying on moving just laugh at the idea. Just think how stupid that would be.

Say nothing and keep saying it. That's the best strategy.

If we did bid, we should be prepared for leaks of course. But still say nothing.

If we didn't bid, then let Sky have their fun. Means nothing to us. And still say nothing.

It does. But then it also confirms we bid upto 52m for Zaha and lets everyone know we are lobbing that cash on the table for players.

We never confirmed how much we bid mate.

The statement reads: “Everton Football Club categorically denies that a bid has been submitted to Crystal Palace for Wilfried Zaha that included an increased sum plus Cenk Tosun and James McCarthy.

“Everton and Crystal Palace have a very good relationship. A bid was made over the weekend which was turned down. Both clubs agreed that was the end of the matter.”

EVERTON 'DENY' SECOND ZAHA BID

Everton
have responded to reports earlier that they had made a second bid to Crystal Palace for Wilfried Zaha.

According to Sky sources, the Merseyside club have offered £55m plus forward Cenk Tosun and midfielder James McCarthy, after they made a £55m cash-only bid, which was rejected.

However, the Toffees have denied this, saying in a statement: "Everton Football Club categorically denies that a bid has been submitted to Crystal Palace for Wilfried Zaha that included an increased sum plus Cenk Tosun and James McCarthy.

"Everton and Crystal Palace have a very good relationship. A bid was made over the weekend which was turned down. Both Clubs agreed that was the end of the matter."

Sky sticking to their guns weirdly.

Looks legit that tbh. I reckon that will be that on this one tbh.

Crazy how many different rumours floating around haha lol

Does the increased sum not indicate that we bid 52m, not increased it to 55 PLUS the players?

Which is why basically it is down to him forcing Palace's hand. If he makes it clear that he will not be playing for them again and doesn't show up at the training ground for awhile they might cave. But if he is going to just accept it and go on with Palace they have no real reason to lower their price which is over the top at the moment.
Yes maybe that’s why Everton made the 55mil bid public knowledge, maybe they think it will get Zaha to push for the move.

He’s apparently on 130K a week, not many clubs can afford to pay him more than that.
Spurs & Liverpool will never want him next summer as they like to buy players at certain ages, especially for that type of money.
Not good enough for City. I doubt Man Utd will ever come back for him. Arsenal again probably won’t be back in for him. So his option is Everton or sit tight and hope Chelsea want him next summer.
