Summer transfer window 2023

Yes agree wholeheartedly, that is the problem really.

However last summer, we brought in Garner, Onana and McNeil for the Richarlison money and it's hard not to say they had better seasons than Richarlison last year.

McNeil had a terrible last season at Burnley and took six months to find himself again. Luckily Dyche came in as I think other managers and he'd have barely got back into the team and been a current flop looking to get going again in the championship.

Garner injured for most of this season but did very well in last six weeks so that is something to build on for sure.

The point remains though. You can sign endless development defenders and midfielders but it's going to be another bottom six finish if the current attacking options remain and little is added to it so club simply can't botch that area for third straight window.

I don't know why people seem to think ( even dyche himself ) that Wieghorst is a Dyche style player.

Yes he is a tall forward so on Initial viewing he may give off that archetype 'Target Man' presumption.
but the lad has come out so many times before stating that is not his game, he isn't even a so called striker, he like's playing further back like say Kane does.
he just hasn't got that kind of talent.
the lads not even really good in the air and he isn't going to be able to hold up play when he isn't naturally getting into those type of positions as the furthest forward.

I think he gets signed on presumptions and dyche surely wont make that same mistake a second time ( other then the possibility of it just being a loan. )

Though I wonder getting a guy that scored a bunch in Germany that was willing to come to Burnley when they were fighting relegation was just worth the risk. After watching him play 20 games he probably changed his mind.

We'd more than double our money on them in 12months.

Imagine if we did that and then went after 3 new players and just managed to continue that cycle every 2 seasons.

I dont think we sell that cheaply though. Like £60m for Rocharlison and £45m with add ons for Gordon doesnt feel cheap to me.

I think at times we dont maximise sales. We need to be more ruthless. We could have sold Richarlison for £80m and DCL for maybe £70m at one point. So we could have maximised sales better.

I think we sell ok though. We just dont have very good players.
This is why £50mil for Pickford makes sense.

Is that the kid from Sunderland? I've not watched him, what do you make of him?

just seen his youtubes...quick, direct and seems to be a good option to rotate with McNeil if the fee is only £15mil.

Wouldnt be my 1st choice but looks good value.

The problem when you sell Lukaku is that the few equivalent talents only want to play for top of the table type teams. So you get a lot of money and have to spread it out over 2nd tier talents that don't come close to replacing the production even if you spend it well. Benteke kept Villa up almost single handedly for 3 years.
This is true...unless of course you look at the top 6 u21 players and offer them a starting position in the team.

Joao Pedro could have been signed moons ago but just went to Brighton

United after Hojlund with Atalanta setting a £43mil fee. We should be in for him saying he will play every game for us. Even if we had a release clause of £75-80mil then it makes sense.

He may say no and we move onto the next one.

Oh yeah he was def worth the risk, if his goals save you from Relegation, then he goes down as a masterstroke signing.
I'm just saying I think he gets cast as a completely different player than he actually is, Just cos of Height..

And if dyche is looking for that target man type of striker, then I can't see him making the same mistake again.
( It's the possibility of it being a loan 'instead of having to cash out' that would worry me )

But he'll know what he isn't getting if it did happen...

Players make a lot of stupid decisions. Some would rather play League Cup games on Tottenham rather than have a chance to be the best player on a lesser team. Makes no sense to me when you are 20 years old and need the chance to prove something.

The mail saying Villa are going to offer Tielemans a deal.

Just the player we should be trying to attract and we have Onana so an incentive to perform well and get back into the Belgium side.

We seem to be in a sell to buy cycle again like the Moyes years.

For this cycle we already sold Gordon however so keep Branthwaite and Pickford if we can.

With Moyes we could usually afford to lose a given player, even if we didn't want to, due to the overall strength of the squad.

Our current squad is flaky and every key player that we take out potentially gets us closer to the drop - it doesn't take much and I wouldn't gamble on Pickford.

I like Onana but he is less of a gamble to let go if there is good profit to be made to reinvest or pay off debt or whatever.

The higher you finish up the table, the easier it is to sell your players.

It’s very hard to sell your cast offs if they are deemed to be a failure in a low end outfit.

You often see very average players at the top end of the table commanding decent fees because the buying clubs think it no shame to not be able to get into a quality team.

Links to Brennan Johnson again from Forrest. I remember we were linked before they were promoted. He did well last year, can’t see us spending £40m on him though.
