Summer transfer window 2023

The Arsenal player that apparently is available thats most interesting to me is Emile Smith-Rowe:

Smith-Rowe22

Midfield rebuild in 12months

Do you not think Smith-Rowe would prefer Villa? His name was constantly linked with them during the last transfer window and, honestly, I think if they are indeed interested he would prefer them. It's unfortunate but it might be something to consider.

We just need to bring in 2 players on permanent deals.

I think Arsenal and Chelsea would be open to move a number of players on. They could accept loans with options or activated into permanent deals in 12months.

That would be 4 players which would be ideal.
I know we disagree a bit Zatara on the likely amount the club should invest on single signings this window but buying within the premier league, especially from the top end I would be very cautious of. We are in part in this mess from not only too expensive transfers but inflated wage bills. Buying within the division, we likely are paying at or above market rate than we are elsewhere in both transfer fees and wages compared to Europe.

I also think the yo-yo sell on potential of a say chelsea product, who comes to us and then back to top end club is a little harder of a sell's pitch. Certainly Lukaku was astute in that regard but the likelihood a top club questioning why such a player didnt break through in the first place is more likely. As demonstrated by Gomes, Schneiderlin, Walcott, Alli even Digne.

He may well do but theyve got a new manager since then who may prefer Spanish or just others in general.

For us, Smith-Rowe, Alex Scott and Gibbs-White are the profile that may suit both Thelwell and Dyche.

Theres a risk level that Everton, as a (relegation threatened club 2 seasons in a row) cant afford to take.

We need a couple of 'ready made' players. But the catch is that they should also have alot of potential to increase their resale value...so should be u23 age.

If for example we had the choice of Balogun(21) for £26mil or Gyokeres(24) for £18-20mil would you do it? Or go for the likes of Hojlund for £35-40mil?

For attacking midfield if it was Smith-Rowe, Alex Scott and Morgan Gibbs-White we could sign for £25-35mil would you do it or aim for someone under £15mil who is relatively unknown?

We will have a limited budget and have 4 first 11 positions to look at. I dont think we can afford to take a risk on 4 players for under £15mil each...better to bring in 2 for £30mil each for example and a couple of loans.

I always wonder about large wage bills with new players - what can motivate them at that point ?

I guess some players are naturally competitive and you definitely want those. Others may want to try and step beyond Everton, fine.

When we go for senior players that have failed at more recently successful clubs or are beyond their peak years, this always concerns me.

Dele Alli, Rondon, Lingard - even Rodriguez (and I'm a fan).

Finding players at ST, RW and possibly CAM I think maybe be a bit more challenging for at below the 20 million mark. But in relation to LB I think there are some interesting options from what i've read and seen bits of for reasonable fees. Names below are really quintessential modern fullbacks I think worth an add to a shortlist. Fees via Transfermarkt and likely subject to reevaluations come summer but all are likely at or below the 20 million mark.

Fabiano Parisi, Italy, Empoli, 22, 10 million
Really good stamina on both ends. Runs tirelessly has a good cross on him. May be out of our level after this season but all in all a great prospect.

Milos Kerkez, Hungary, AZ, 19, 10 million
AC Milan product who has shined in the Eredivisie. Quintessential modern fullback. Extremely quick and attack minded.

Björn Meijer, Netherlands, Brugge, 20, 9 million
Moved to Belgium in the Summer and continued to impress. More defensive minded, extremely disciplined but also growing on the offensive end.

Luka Netz, Germany, Mochengladbach, 19, 6.5 million
On the rawer end and prospect thats been in and out of his side. Still a very engaging player with all the traits of a modern full back. Strengths lean defensive could work on crossing.
Are you @Zatara's young apprentice?

Probs guna get pelters for this but I’d get Targett from the horse punchers, he’d be cheap and he’s miles better than Myko.

Oh god, the transfer lists have started already

Which of the central defenders do tou think we should get rid of?
obviously we keep Tark and Branthwaite but we need others for rotation/injury cover. I personally think we should keep Godfrey and flog Holgate+Keane but realistically we’ll end up keeping Keane because of Dyche. I want Mina to stay but thats only reasonable if he agrees a wage slash and I cant imagine Kev will want to splash 15 million on a new CB (Hincapie, Medina etc) when there are other positions that are more urgent. I was thinking we maybe keep Coady but he is getting old so it will just be another burden on the books. We may also try and grab a CB from one of the relegated sides.
