He may well do but theyve got a new manager since then who may prefer Spanish or just others in general.

For us, Smith-Rowe, Alex Scott and Gibbs-White are the profile that may suit both Thelwell and Dyche.

Theres a risk level that Everton, as a (relegation threatened club 2 seasons in a row) cant afford to take.

We need a couple of 'ready made' players. But the catch is that they should also have alot of potential to increase their resale value...so should be u23 age.

If for example we had the choice of Balogun(21) for £26mil or Gyokeres(24) for £18-20mil would you do it? Or go for the likes of Hojlund for £35-40mil?

For attacking midfield if it was Smith-Rowe, Alex Scott and Morgan Gibbs-White we could sign for £25-35mil would you do it or aim for someone under £15mil who is relatively unknown?

We will have a limited budget and have 4 first 11 positions to look at. I dont think we can afford to take a risk on 4 players for under £15mil each...better to bring in 2 for £30mil each for example and a couple of loans.
In dream land if you think we can attract any of these 3.
The likes of Newcastle, Villa, West Ham just to name 3 will be in far better positions both structually & financially to court these players.
Forest beat us to Gibbs White last summer for god's sake

It probably works if we have the wisdom to realize what we are, this time around. We are not a club pursuing the European places spending 25 million pounds per player. We are a club that has to hit a home run every time we commit that level of resources. I can't really fault either of the last two DoFs given the impossible remits they were handed. A DoF is not Hercules. Doesn't matter who they are, they are not pulling off the Twelve Labors.

Anyway, I fully support the scouting model of a series of Zat v. Nym Thunderdome matches to determine the club's targets. They both have a well-informed eye, and may the man with the most commitment to their position on the prospect win.

To pluck out a random figure from thin air...

If we had £80mil in our position, i would rather we signed 2 top players for £40mil each than a mix of £10mil and £20mil players to total the £80mil

Why?

Because were close to relegation 2 years in a row and we need players to 'guarantee' goals. This costs a premium and id rather we did that so our entire team improve rather than take a far higher risk.

Relegation risk, players gelling risk and existing players underperforming due to poor recruitment.

The same if we had £30mil and sold 3 players for £10mil each. We should buy 2 players.

Branthwaite £1.5m
Dom £2m
Stones £3.5m
Garner £9m
Patterson £9m
Lookman £9m (made a profit)
Vlasic £10m (made a profit)

Buying cheap hasn’t exactly not gone well for us really.
lol of course its the method i would favour in normal circumstances.

But none of those players listed came in on day 1 and took the 11 up a level.

Our team needs quality now...quality with an instant impact but also resale value and a long term focus.

?????? Brandsy boy quite often wasted close to 25 million on a single player, whilst almost always getting it massively wrong
Thats what i was saying. Anything up to £25mil still carries risk. The risk drops the more you are willing to pay per player.

So we should focus on just 2 attacking players with whatever funds we can put together.

Bring those 2 in and the rest can be loans.

In dream land if you think we can attract any of these 3.

Forest were willing to pay £42mil for Gibbs-White. He and Johnson are the main reason they havent already been relegated.

If Newcastle, Villa and West Ham want those 3 English players then there are still plenty of others on the continent.

If we could bring in top u23 players at centre forward, right wing, attackind midfield and right back by spreading funds around then great.

But i find it more likely that we get those top players by paying the higher fees.

Which of the central defenders do tou think we should get rid of?
obviously we keep Tark and Branthwaite but we need others for rotation/injury cover. I personally think we should keep Godfrey and flog Holgate+Keane but realistically we’ll end up keeping Keane because of Dyche. I want Mina to stay but thats only reasonable if he agrees a wage slash and I cant imagine Kev will want to splash 15 million on a new CB (Hincapie, Medina etc) when there are other positions that are more urgent. I was thinking we maybe keep Coady but he is getting old so it will just be another burden on the books. We may also try and grab a CB from one of the relegated sides.

Start with Tsrkowski and Branthwaite and get rid of every other player who have proved time and time again they simply aren't good enough for Everton Football Club

Goodbye Holgate, Godfrey, Keane and Mina will obviously go on a free. Bring in another experienced centre half and see how Welch gets on this pre season and if he's up for the challenge of 4th slot or if he needs to go on loan.

But ffs stop giving contracts to players who are nothing more than mediocre squad fillers

Mina's going. Holgate will surely be going. Godfrey, I'm not so sure - I don't rate the lad but the fact he can fill in at both full back positions (albeit not very well) might save him. Keane - Tough one to call - personally I'd punt him out of the building, but I can imagine that Dyche may see him as someone to keep, even if he isn't a guaranteed starter.

Tarkowski is sound and gives us a great weapon from attacking set pieces. You'd hope Branthwaite is given a chance (unless the club already have a buyer lined up). I'd say we will probably need to bring one more CB in over the summer.

This is all on the assumption we stay up - you'd probably need to rethink all of that if we go down, as I can't see Tarkowski sitting on a £100k pw deal in the Championship for instance.

Smith-Rowe will absolutely not be sold by Arsenal - he go on a season-long loan somewhere.
