YesDeclan Rice?
Hahahahaha he really did as well hahahaha i thought you were messing 3 in 22 minsThat 3 was a hattrick on his debut as well lollollol
Problem is mate - we don't have any money. And even if we did, we wouldn't be allowed to spend much of it.That's a very long post to defend the signing of a truly woeful player.
Why are we where we are right now? It's because we keep signing shabite players like wout weghorst, players who just aren't remotely good enough to play consistently at this level.
Is he better than maupray and Simms? Based on what? They are all crap.
"Temper our expectations" you need to up yours because we'll be right back here again next season signing dross like this.
Could do with a BOGOFSame with Gyokeres. Could get both for a reduced fee. (Probs won't, Keane still cost us like £30m)
Yes not the kind of players we need who are willing to fight and be counted every week, the likes of Ronaldo and Benzema they’ve won things and last pay days I get that and suppose for the others not likely to win anything so why not take the payday I also get that. We need players who want to play in the best leagues even if we’re classed as a stepping stone and make money selling them on if that’s the model that steadies us that’s fine as well.Sad world we live in...those guys have already made so much money to live hundred times over, yet they're still after insane wages to play in a mickey mouse league. Tells everything you need to know about those players personality.
I just don't get your logic though mate? Your agreeing he's not good, but because we don't have much money we should sign him... But then we will never have money if we keep buying crap players who we then can't shiftProblem is mate - we don't have any money. And even if we did, we wouldn't be allowed to spend much of it.
So expectation levels need to be realistic. Is Weghorst any good? Meh, not really, he's good with his back to goal and has decent feet and links well, but he isn't amazing in the air nor does he ever look particularly threatening in front of goal - in fact his xG was lower than Maupay's this season, which tells you about the sort of positions he was, or wasn't finding himself in.
I don't even particularly like the player mate, but this sort of thing is going to be our level until we are able to spend again.
Precisely, data (Stats) with no context is meaningless, Data with context is information.
It is this misunderstanding and frankly, misuse, of stats and data that winds me up mostly about the stats they use these days to try and explain a game or sequence that can only really be understood, or is at all useful as part of the wider game.

If we cant afford a decent striker and have to bring in dross like Weghorst then where is the money for two wing forwards? If we can buy 2 wing forwards then just find a goalscoring striker and buy him instead?I agree on expectations mate.
The thing with Weghorst is what he enables. There are stats that show a significant increase in Utds over all goals, with him in the team compared to other strikers like Ronaldo and other alternatives. Often that enabling function isnt always acknowledged or validated in naked stats. Im not saying hes world class, but hes useful and functional and ive no more greater expectation then that with our budgets.
If we sign him we need a couple of wing forwards, to capitalise on what he enables, no point elsewise - if you look at Rashford and Sancho's output when he came into the team it increased hugely and that's what he brings. If there is a plan to ring him in it has to include wide forwards.
Yes think 15-20 is about right for him did PSV make an offer for him? This is s nice little write up on Branthwaite...says he may be worth £20mil today (in recruitment circles).
Probably would agree with that but after 12months i see it at least doubling -- which, as always is why you dont sell your top prospects.

I get that but if weve got any money id buy a striker first. With our great recruitment history whose to say the 2 WFs we bring in to feed off Weghorst wont be shabite and score no goals? then we are stuck we 3 shabite players and no extra goals. Its not that binary is it, we need a striker and wing forward/s, full back to for my money and have a budget - we may cutting our cloth accordingly for each.
Hence i say realistic expectations.
I'd honestly put that down as noise. He just hasn't played enough to definitely say he's enabling guys imo.I agree on expectations mate.
