I agree on expectations mate.

The thing with Weghorst is what he enables. There are stats that show a significant increase in Utds over all goals, with him in the team compared to other strikers like Ronaldo and other alternatives. Often that enabling function isnt always acknowledged or validated in naked stats. Im not saying hes world class, but hes useful and functional and ive no more greater expectation then that with our budgets.

If we sign him we need a couple of wing forwards, to capitalise on what he enables, no point elsewise - if you look at Rashford and Sancho's output when he came into the team it increased hugely and that's what he brings. If there is a plan to bring him in it has to include wide forwards.
Problem is we don’t need someone who’s good with their back to goal we need a goal scoring forward we don’t have many players who score goals Gray,McNeil and doucoure was our top 3 scorers with a grand total of 18 I don’t see weghorst adding to that total the amount of chances maupay had or balls that went into dangerous areas he should of been top of that list but is bottom with 1 goal from 29 appearances another non goal scoring forward isn’t helping us

I'd honestly put that down as noise. He just hasn't played enough to definitely say he's enabling guys imo.

We can stop trying to talk ourselves into Weghorst guys. He's a bad player, he'd be a bad signing, and last time Dyche turned to him he got both relegated and sacked so he'd be a complete idiot to do it again. That's just what it is.

In that case to you put all his stats down to noise, positive or negative - that's a silly point mate.

Again you could say the same thing about McNeill or JT.

Our game plan would suit Weghorst. We've built around Dom being a big tall lump up front, so why not have another player who fits into that plan? We're not getting Abraham in this particular universe. We have just scraped survival 2 years in a row, we have to manage out expectations as to who will actually come and play for us as much as we need to worry about the money.

If we keep Tom Cannon at the club next season, which I think we should, then we need to sign one additional striker as well as DCL.

We need to bring in some creativity and I think that will be a priority. Last year we failed with Gibbs-White and Kudus and we certainly paid the price for that.
Friend of mine is a PNE fan and he'd love to have Cannon back

I think my point was caveated by it has to be part of a bigger recruitment picture mate and recruiting what he could enable.

Im not saying any of this is going to happen, just bestowing the potential logic.

I think what he is actually doing is probably more attributable to him than team performance is given he personally is controlling himself while there are 10+ other players who have an impact on the team. To me it's fine calling one significantly less valuable as far as evaluation goes.

I mean Tarkowski is absolute crap so there you go tbh. Let's stop bringing those guys in and calling it great.

This is s nice little write up on Branthwaite...says he may be worth £20mil today (in recruitment circles).

Probably would agree with that but after 12months i see it at least doubling -- which, as always is why you dont sell your top prospects.

So that means we will sell him for £10m, with add ons.

I think there is an evidence base to back it up, i can see logic, if he occupies defenders, makes the ball stick in the first phase and you can get talented players in around him to exploit space - we've had worse Maupay shaped plans mate. Im coming at this with pragmatic low expectations admittedly, we wont sign immensely talented players therefore we need to be a sum of limited parts that form a system that must be king and strong. Someone like Max Cornet had the season of his life when Wieghorst came in, in addition to the Utd output.

Couldn't agree with you less on your last line mate.

Your attitude is basically just a slow bleed until we get relegated. If you don't ever try to find and sign talented players then that prophecy will self fulfill and you'll be crap. And that leads one place. We can control it more than that.

Yeah I know everyone loves Tarkowski despite him giving everyone absolute acres of space to play in basically anywhere they feel like because sometimes he blocks the shots that he's conceding by never closing down space ever.
