Almost ever player we’ve bought have been established “premier league” players and we’ve fallen like a rock
Problem is we'll struggle to attract hungry and ambitious. We're in a beggars can't be choosers predicament now. Either attract dross or have to pay over the odds for potential (which might not workout).

I have no problem with Leeds' attacking players, that's something they were actually good at. I'd be more concerned if we were after any of their defence or centre mids.

Tyler Adams now linked £25mil

There's no fire right now. We have the same number of points as everyone else. We shouldn't be signing a bunch of 19 year Olds that aren't ready but there's a tier of player that is both good enough now and possessing and upside that could make us quite a bit better in a few years that we should be after.

The market I'm talking about is not the one where we bought any of those players. There's a whole middle ground where the players can step in and play while also developing. I don't want guys who need u23s time. Basically the Onana types but maybe not always that expensive.

True but there has to be (as you infer) that balance between potential and hitting the ground running.

Players like that u23 who are already progressjng in their development and can instantly join the 11 cost money.

We could either spend on 4 players like Harrison at £16mil a pop lets say...or 2 u23s who can hit the ground running at £32mil each -- whose potential upside and resale values could double.

Id go for quality over quantity

You are right but I don't think we have the money to spend to get that calibre of player as well as a striker.

Maybe not but somewhere in the championship or league 1 there’ll be a younger version of Jack Harrison who probably doesn’t cost 15 mill and would jump at the chance to play premier league football with Everton. I’d rather we went for those types of players, lower upfront cost, lower wages, could even get two of them for the price of one McNeill or Harrison.

Nothing against either, and McNeil played his part in keeping us up but it’s not as though we’re talking about a Rooney or a Scholes were you go fair enough if you find one pay the money as there’s probably not another one. They’re two average PL wide players and we’ll have ended up spending 30 mill on them combined.

I mean Mykolenko hardly fits. No one rated him at that price and we got had by Kyiv because we were desperate with a desperate manager and no one running the club. A real scouting system and a real DOF don't do that transfer.
I know that’s my point we don’t have a proper scouting system in place and DOF is still out whether he can do anything the next few signing are important for us and him to see if he’s earning his wage.

like who?

Anyone find it mad people are advocating getting Harrison and happy for him to contribute 4-5 goals?

Wingers should be looking to get 8+ goals or they aren't very good ( unless they are assisting loads ).

4-5 goals is a poor output from a winger.

We spent badly, we bought the wrong players and very often paid far too much for them.

The squad has been unbalanced for years. Spending money was never the answer if it isn't spent wisely. Last summer we signed eight players but left ourselves completely short of strikers.

We also kept changing managers on a very regular basis who were each supported in the transfer market and the following manager was left with players he didn't want.

That really only stopped when our financial problems crystalised and we have nearly had to stop spending altogether.

It will probably take another twelve months before Gomes, Gbamin and Alli have left, although some may go sooner , and we will finally have reduced our expensive bloated squad to more normal levels.
What’s all that got to with your statement of “bringing in established premier league players will help us” when, as stated, that’s what we’ve done

Don’t believe that for a second. There’s a world of footballers out there who are probably more technically gifted than Jack Harrison and won’t demand £90k a week

Looks like our one scout has been moved from the Burnley Travelodge to the Leeds one 🙈

He got 8 and 10 goals in the two seasons previous.

Even last year despite only scoring 6 times he registered 10 assists which is more than any of our players by quite a bit.

Yer which is fine but I've seen people type stuff like "if he can get us 4 goals"

We should be looking to get a lot more from him than that ( if he does sign )
