Summer transfer window 2023

I’ll make a prediction. Barring scandals, injury epidemics or nuclear warfare I predict Jack Harrison will be good value for 16 mil. He is reaching that prime age and is a two-sided player that is capable of scoring goals and racking up assists. He isn’t the sexy unknown gem from Kazakhstan nor is he the 20 year old prodigy going for 100 mil on the market but he would be a solid signing.
His numbers might not be one to make the stat nerds swoon, but he carries a threat, something we sorely lacked last season.

I’m starting to get to the point where I’m fully onboard with his signing, so it inevitably won’t happen anyway.

The question about Harrison shouldn't be "does he improve us now?" The question should be "in 3 years will he be at the level we want the team to be at after 3 years of properly rebuilding the squad?" The answer for me is firmly no and as such he shouldn't be considered really at any price but certainly not at a big chunk like 15m.
I’m sorry but that’s exactly what the question should be for some of our business this window. We need to strengthen now to avoid another season like the last two. if we can afford then yes get someone in who will have value for us in three years or so, but the environment has to be right for that slightly longer term planning you have in mind and the current circumstances are not right for that. Unfortunately we are currently living hand to mouth so survival is key.

Let’s be real he isn’t anyone’s first choice (except for maybe his mum), but he does exactly what we need him to do- he makes us a sturdier team and can provide end product plus service. If we sign him and a solid striker, I can see us finishing fairly higher than people would expect.

It's easier to take risk on potential when you have a backbone of steady 7/10 players - Tarks comes to mind, as does Coleman and Pickford.

We could do with more - even if they stay at Everton for the remainder of their career, do a job and we get no sell-on - fine.

Along with those, you can take more risks on the 'potential' players.

We may have some potential in Garner, Onana, Patterson and Branthwaite anyway.

And yet again, the clock is ticking and we still have Kenwright clinging on for dear life and as a result, the club is seemingly gripped by inertia.
They left Lampard and Dyche to deal with 2 unreal situation involving the mismanagement. They all sat behind their desks and put the sacrificial goats out.

We have a Director of Football who seems scared of cameras; he should be out in the press getting hold of this mess while the nobheads above sort of out their issues

Imagine thinking he’s getting a single second of football under Sean Dyche.

….why?

I have heard this statement before & have no idea of the reasoning behind it. From what I see, Dyche gives players an opportunity regardless of age. From what we learned on the run-in, he selects the players he most trusts. I think he saw enough of Simms, Maupay, Holgate, Keane etc to know they won’t be in his plans next season.

He wants the best players regardless of age. I’m sure he’ll look at Mills, Cannon and Branthwaite in pre-season. I’ve watched lots of Mills (I think he was injured and not available the last few games) & thought he might just fall below the required level,as an attacking wide player, I actually posted 2 years ago that his future could be at RB.

Its a bit lazy to say Dyche won’t select footballers because of their age. He’s not stupid, he’ll select players based on his opinion of their ability.

This isn't football manager
We don't get to buy all the wonderkids and watch them rip it up

We were 35min from relegation last season
'does he improve us now?' is absolutely the question
