It's an extremely bad thing, but he's not worth 20m and we need to offload his wages too.

Selling him for say £5m last year probably wasn't an option given his value, but it might be an option now that his value is half that. £5m quid is better than keeping a player on high wages who hasn't been good enough for two or three seasons now. We need to get as much as possible, but his market value is not going to be particularly high.

Ultimately you only pay for registration. 5 years at in and around 5 mill a year.

He has 5 mill left on his registration next year. He costs us in the profit & loss about 11 mill a year, so if we get a fee 5 million, we make/save 16 mill off the bottom line - we wouldn't have if he stays for his final year.

We are never recouping what we've paid for him and to him at this point, so overall a poor investment.

But ill bite your hand off for making anything on him, given he played 0 games for Everton last season.

Wonder though is this a bit of paper guff to flush out Lille - don't remember him being particularly a favourite under the FSW.
