This was my point, we still have 24 1st team players having let 6 leave... we could let another 6 leave that don`t play for us and bring 4 or 5 in of good quality...

The squad is bloated, I don`t buy we need to replace them that have left, I see it as we need more outgoings at strengthen in the key areas.

I think Adam Wharton would be a tidy signing as rotation option for Garner/Onana perhaps. He'd certainly get more games for us than the Geordies as well.

We need 4 players in the middle and all 3 have the right age profile. The PSG link or an Alex Scott could be a nice 4th option...but we'll probably keep Gana i suppose.

Ive said this for a while now. Even though some are named who would likely be moved on loan, theyre still in the squad / on the books.

As you suggest, could put 6 and add 5 -- much more could be punted if we promoted kids too.

I’d have loved him to stay but end of the day the club will have consulted the medical team about his injury prospects and taken their advice. Other clubs might well take the risk but our medical staff know him best and if they said release him can only trust their judgement.

Not sure our medical department are great judges tbh.

Linked with loads probably all the usual bullcrap, stories about us having to wait for July the first, and of financial year ? More likely last week or even days of the transfer window, getting the dregs, when the realisation hits our fantastic Chairman/ Board it's going to down shut.. Branthwaite would have been afforded less than 5 games to bed in before Mina inevitably got injured and continued to pick up huge wages whilst not being available.

There was no doubt that he was our best defender when fit, but the fitness was few and far between so we were right to no extend. Also, he was here for 5 years, sometimes both player and club just need move on.
