Summer transfer window 2023

Hope Dyche can beat his aversion to playing youth players, as we may need to see dobbin, cannon, Warrington and Welch in and around the first team next season, looking at our financial situation.

I’m wouldn’t be too displeased by that, truth be told.

I don't think he does have an aversion myself, genuinely just think it's quality. He was playing McNeil for both Burnley and us. I'm sure Trippier was playing regularly under him at a young age, also. Onana starts most games for us.

That's football.

One club's unwanted player is another clubs wanted player.

PSG didn't want Gana Gueye. 33, last year off his deal, wanted to move to Everton, well past it, but they still fought for every penny and got it.

Hull, desperately fighting relegation, wanted Niasse. We loaned him.

Mirallas and Walcott were decent enough profile - we loaned both, one to another Premier League team.

Besic, loan with us paying his wages to Middlesbrough for 2 years? Then to Sheff Utd for a year before letting him go for nothing.

Even more recently, no way we got Niels Nkounkou's worth in transfer fee.

Teams will chance taking players on loan from us before buying - even in January we had Moyes saying they'd take Keane on loan.

We've been woeful at flogging players for years.

Other clubs are exploiting the fact we desperately need wages off the books as much as we need fees for players.

It's been a situation of our own making, of course, but once finances have stabilised we will be in a better position to turn down other teams offering to get wages off our books.

If we had a chunk of cash I'd do a Holgate + cash for Ndiaye and also a Gomes + cash for Jonathan David....and bring in Balogun too.

Over £100mil on top of the 2 players though so very unlikely.

The MSP group must surely see value in having Balogun (US) and David (Canada) seeing as along with Mexico theyre 2 of 3 locations for the 2026 world cup.
They probably see value in a lot of players but is there any suggestion at all that they'll want to drop North of 100m on new players? Even if they did, could we even spend it given our finances?

For FFP we have circa £30-50mil available i think. We would simply need to sell Gray and we could do around £100mil on FFP.

It's quite stark when you put it like that. I guess it's hard to negotiate when you reek of desperation.

His stats show him playing Centre forward, second striker, attacking midfield...with his best results coming in the latter two roles.

I'd guess he would be rotating then replacing Doucoure so ideally we would have a midfield 3 of:

Garner(22) Onana(21)
Ndiaye(23)
Very long term thinking and far better than anything weve seen in a long long long time.
Crazy thinking that we could sell most of the attackers we have this window iwobi gray maupay sims. Could see a player like him coming in as can fit a few roles

I would, playing a bunch of kids who will probably play the majority of their careers in League One and Two wont end well.
Instead of the likes of holgate, Keane or Gomes getting starts and minutes?!

I’d take the kids thanks.

He was playing some right cloggers at Burnley, and had some decent/ok younger players to call on but never bothered.

We can say this quality thing, but let’s get it right, he was picking Michael Keane right up until he simply couldn’t and big yerald and Cody come in - he can be stubborn with players , and I’m not sure he will have that luxury this coming season.

We certainly shouldn't be countenancing any loans out in June or July. Our position should be sales only, and only in the last week or two of the window should we consider a loan (obviously wouldn't make that last bit public).

W would be absolutely certain to get relegated.... there would be no last day drama... we would be gone weeks before.
I think the only youth player with a real chance has not been mentioned by you..... Mills.
Cannon is also worth keeping but Dobbin and Warrington did not set the lower divisions alight it is now hard to see them survive in the Premiership.
I think we will see Welch leave on loan as he nearly did in January.

The reality at all clubs is that the number of academy players that make it through to the Premiership is tiny and the number of young players that leave Everton and have a good premiershipcareer is even smaller.

Disagree.

Sorry, I like the lad mills as well, was calling for him to get mins last season.

I’m not saying play them all at the same time btw, but one or two when injuries/suspensions kick in instead of the usual dross wouldn’t kill us imo.

I think it was @ForeverEverton who posted our squad. It was 24 players before youth.

Brands previously pointed at 23 being an ideal squad size -- Dyche is known not to use many.

For the rules u21s arent counted but if we pencilled in Mills and Cannon to the first team squad its still 2 players. Whether or not theyre 21 or not is irrelevant.

Id be happy to see them included as backup/rotation options.

Fair enough. But giving some opportunities to Cannon, Mills and Branthwaite....I know there are rumours about selling him but if he is still here...seems a good idea. Better that than bringing in some 30 somethings from the Championship. Nobody is suggesting putting out a team of unproven youngsters
