Good points.

Trying to cover the amount of positions we need on a tight budget is never an easy ask.

I would never understimate how difficult it is. If we set the bar (depressingly) at say a final league position of 13th/14th and not being embroiled in nail-biting for the last 8 games, can we manoeuvre enough in the market over the next 8 weeks to bring that about?

Who knows ultimately, but if targeted business is done, we have a good chance I think. A lot of players have left / are leaving, but as we know, most of them produced very little tangible in terms of winning points, if they played at all.

I'm looking for us to gain 10 points on last season, although a manager should never aim that low from the start. If we could find two strikers that between them got 20 goals, then our prospects look immeasurably better. Part of me thinks thats a very doable task, even on a budget, and another part thinks it isn't.

Whatever happens, we need to get our recruitment right, not just right, but the cohort of signings we do end up with need to do better than expected, individually and collectively, and thats a big ask.

I still remain optimistic though, based almost entirely on the notion that it really shouldn't be difficult to "replace" most of what've we lost, when a lot of those players contributed almost nothing to the bottom line. Even getting the signings to be consistently fit would represent a big step forward.

Trying to find some low-expectation perspective on last season - McNeil, Garner, Patterson (hoping he can overcome injuries..), Tarks, Pickford, Doucs, Gana, Onana, Iwobi, Coleman - are serviceable PL players under Dyche. Even Gray and Myko played their part.

If DCL and all those stayed fit all season - impossible of course - I'd even say that would be enough to stay up if Tarks had a decent partner.

So, DCL and Mina are critical to back-up and replace, respectively.

Objectively - Godfrey, Holgate, Davies, Maupay contributed very little. Keane contributed but was unreliable. They can all go.

As things stand, a starting striker and centre-back - along with a competing LB - are essential.

I'm aware Branthwaite is ours and will hopefully be competing to start at CB - but that's not enough imo.

It would be great to get more of course, wingers, creative midfielders etc. But Bill has a habit of leaving us very short in a obviously key area.

I think we need someone as competition for doucoure - he’s the only player we have who can play that role in dyche’s team. I’d love someone like Billing but imagine he’d cost too much.
Conor Gallagher would be another one for that role but we've no chance there.

Don't disagree at all. The worry, obviously, is will be allowed just to sell the under performers? If Onana, Iwobi and Branthwaite go then the task ahead looks a little different

I also don't think it's totally beyond the realms of possibility that Dyche has a look at Alli and fancies his chances at getting a tune out of him

I think he'd be foolish to try it and the finances might ultimately prove a stumbling block unless we can renegotiate with Spurs, but what Dyche said about him the other month made me think he wants to at least take a look at him. Plus, you have to take it with an industrial load of salt, but the lad at Glastonbury on Twitter who posted a selfie with Dyche said that he fancied getting the best out of Dele (I know, I know)
Maybe so. I just think he's said certain things about Dele because if he hadn't then no one would take a chance on him. If Dyche came out and said Dele needs to find a new club, people on the outside looking in would wonder well why, and maybe then as a result of that they'd then lose their interest.

I've seen a couple times on here people say 'we don't need another LW (Harrison) we've got McNeil' or 'we don't need another 10, we've got Doucs'. Yet we all experienced how the lack of squad depth and quality alternatives almost got us relegated. Every team needs quality, creativity, productivity, passion, experience, potential, engine etc across all areas of the pitch - Everton need to strengthen across the board

Whilst true, above all else we desperately a striker and forwards in general - preferably a RW, because the only one we'll have left, should Gray go, is Iwobi who is useless out wide imo.

How much would Walker-Peters cost from a relegated Southampton? 26 years old and would be a starting quality right back for the next 5 years, allowing Coleman to retire gracefully and for Patterson to develop properly as a rotation.

Apparently Newcastle are after him...so not cheap

mentioned this myself as I was surprised there wasn't more of a shout for him. He's very comfortable on both sides also, so would be more than capable cover at LB

Of course! They shouldn't be mutually exclusive. If we always prioritise one side, each year we'll be weak on the other. The important job for the club is to find the right balance and (call me optimistic) I think there IS a plan in place, which may mean we strengthen other positions first while negotiations from ST/RW chug on.

That being said I'd rather we just pay the release clause for Dia, sign Faivre and negotiate a precontract for Vasquez for Jan
