Re Barry, I agree with your points on him, said way back I would not like to sign him. In my recent post I only mentioned taking him on as no fee involved so may be worth a one year deal but no more.

Yes we need to either sign Lukaku or another very good striker but we also need other players to fill out the squad. The current squad have done brilliantly to be in a position to still be in with a shout of CL qualification but going another season with a similar set of players, im not so sure we'll keep up the fight next season as clubs above us and around us will improve on what they've got.

Signing Lukaku alone and then Barry on a free and Deulofeu possibly on loan again isnt going to improve us significantly and keep us constantly pushing for CL season in, season out IMO and thankfully Martinez will know that!

I do honestly think that there are better value strikers than Lukaku, but his goal record for his age is excellent, so maybe he's worth a big investment. Just depends whether or not Martinez thinks he can turn him into a well-rounded footballer.

Any examples?

I think we have to be realistic and say that £20m+ is the going rate for a player of his quality who is proven in the league.

When you look at fees around Europe it might even represent very good value.

Alexandre Pato. 24yrs old, world class goal scoring record, has had injuries due to growth spurts, was purchased for 12mil pounds in Jan 13 and now out on loan and unwanted. There are others... It's not Rom or bust.

We want to compete with the best but don't have the money, never will have, so we continue having the same monotonous discussions about Kenwright.

If Chelsea sell Rom, every club in Europe is going to show interest.

There not though

Nooooooo, of course not.

Clubs like Inter and AC won't be.. Especially after he finishes the yr strong with us and now that Benteke has been ruled out of the World Cup, he leads the line for Belgium and has a stormer.

Will Madrid/Barca/PSG be after him?

I think Everton would pay less for Remy and get more out of him in the short-term.
