I don't think the manager really suggested other names and didn't seem to be massively involved in the recruitment side of the club.

The issue for me, was they didn't seem to have generated a list of targets from the recruitment side.

That was the thing that floored me, the lack of options once Maja was gone. Even if you're short staffed there are dozens of football databases and services out there who could have identified better and cheaper targets.

Agree. Just finished watching it today and that Charlie guy was an obnoxious, condescending, snobbish tosser of the highest order. Talking down to others, making others make calls on his behalf while he sits back and relaxes. Even his own Mrs. has to restrain him from embarrassing her in public.

And yeah, he reminds me of someone at work. Everyone hates him!

That said, the owner Stu Donald, seems like a decent chap.

Yeah the owner seemed decent but he doesn't half need a decent gardner in for his place. The gardens overgrowing and it was doing my head in. His missus looked like one of the girls off white chcks.

I can see the logic of signing Grigg as hes knocked in 20 odd goals in his league 1 games before. 27 years old and has experience so is an older head to get Sunderland over the finish line.

One thing i wonder is if they told the manager they were going to be payimg £3mil for Grigg (after he said £1.25mil tops) then would he have a different target in mind?

If they had looked at league 2 every outfield player in the top 20 biggest transfers ever went for £700k+ to a championship or premier league team.

Surely they could have signed 2 players from league 2 up front and had cash left over.

If you watch the games later on they've got a lad called Wyche playing upfront. I've just googled it and he signed that same month for 650k. The telling thing for me is when he'd sealed the deal for Grigg and he said 'if you need a goal in the last half hour, he can come on...'. Record signing fee for that division and he's talking about him like a super sub. Nice bloke but not a clue about football.

i dont get why they dont try and grab some of these under 18 / under 23 youngsters from the prem teams on loan

they must still have some links with the prem sides having spent many years in the prem. Plus they have a massive link with us with the whole bradley affair and kenwright donating money to them etc.

worst case scenario they contact bill or mosh and say can you give us a bit of hand and loan us an up and coming striker or a reserve striker (obviously if the player is willing to move)

That Maja would have been what 19/20 when he left?

Maybe Sambou, Hornby or Lavery could have done a job for them on loan?

Sunderland & Crewe Alexandra furlough players because of coronavirus pandemic

No idea of the financial state of either club but if it's at the point where it's furlough or bust what can they do? How much do the players get paid.

This is the tip of the ice berg for football. It's a million miles away from the rs trying to scam the system.

They have several millionaire owners. They don't need the money. And they will continue to pay the rest of the wages. So it's what, £200k or so a month that they are just scabbing of the state.

They are essentially Liverpool FC of the North-East.

In that case, let them sink into the ignominy of their own creation.

Will Grigg alone will be on £15-20k a week, or £60-80k a month. So why do they need Government and tax payer money? Nasty, nasty Brexit club.
