He's 31 but I think the point is we need some experience and someone who can step in immediately. Plus I think Stoke would want more than 7mil for Shawcross anyway. I do like Wheater though.

Sorry mate but I couldn't disagree more with your post. Distin is a great addition and will certainly do a job immediately and for a few seasons which is what we need and is costing relatively little.

Shawcross is a talent yes and I'd be happy with him as well as Distin, but not exactly proven after 1 season of top flight football and he's rumoured to be priced at between 10 and 12 million and United have first refusal if he was going cheaply.

But Portsmouth are now in the hands of the rich arab, only paid about 60 mill for the club. So another club with financial backing. Could be Distin will change his mind and stay for a bigger pay packet!!

The only we get any money is TV rights and sell players at a profit!!
