They'll need a 2-3% lead over the Tories (if the SNP do as expected) - doesn't look likely at this late stage.

I just can't see Labour and the Lib-Dems cutting a deal. Before 2010 definitely, but not now.

It could well be a case of needs must as you suggest though. I think a lot of Labour/left of centre voters would have a huge issue with Clegg being involved in any cabinet position though.

That was what the likes of Thatcher and her friends thought of this city.

That was all centred on the Toxteh riots following an arrest and the racist brutalty of the then Police. The riots were all centred on the Afro-Cariibeann community and not the wider city. Is that on what you base your decimationon?

There were other problems in the city, two car plants closed down, the use of containers on ships these all led to job losses. It was never going to be and is not now to attract Industry and jobs to the city because of the location in relation to the EU. Thankfully the Halewood plant is holding up and long may it do so. What the city does need is better transport links with the rest of the country but many do not like the idea of HS2 or a fast trans Pennine railway.

But we've also benefitted quite a bit from EU cash, 2008 being one example. Whether it's spent wisely by councils is another matter......

Also, the city was done over by the Tories, massively. There were quotes from Thatcher endorsing a 'managed decline' of the city.

But that is only a partial return of the cash we pay into the EU, it was our own money anyway. BTW Blair reduced our rebate by £5 billion from the £10 million the Tories had negotiated!

Again just like the other poster you refer to something over 30 years ago. You should ask yourself why did Labour not come and help the City during their 15 year reign?

What about Detroit's location in the USA? They had more car plants than us........

I wasn't really talking about her attractiveness. I just think she is a sound bird, and I was just pointing out that another person who looks like a like a lizard might be getting in to power.

Richest have doubled their wealth since 2008 in the worst recession in 80 years. Bottom 90% are worse off. We know a bunch of scammers when we see it, mate.

Let's get this shower of self-serving chancers out.

So 10% are the richest and the other 90% are worse off, I do not think your figures are any where near correct. Just again hearsay.

Thousands were left unemployed because of the Thatcher regime, that's a reputation the city has never been able to shake, even to this day. Liverpool was by no means alone in this, just look around the country. She is universally despised in what was the industrial heartlands of the Britain.

Yes the country and economy needed to adapt to the changing times but she did nothing to support people through those changes. Once thriving communities had the soul ripped out of them and honest working people were left on the scrapheap.
