The 5/4/2016 pro Martinez thread

So Moyes hadn't started bringing him into the first team and wouldn't have earlier only for his leg break.

Just because some young players don't make it Ross wouldn't have except for Martinez.

Look at Martinez record of bringing young players through and look at moyes record.

You're crazy if you think he wouldn't have come through under any manager.
Disagree 100%, you ought to read my post properly. He may have gotten gametime under many managers but history is littered with the corpses of gifted young players.
Ross could easily have become that without the trust and playtime Martinez gave him.

The quality of football being served up is completely overrated. People are saying it's the best football in 30 years. Really? You could have fooled me. It's not good football at all. It looks good when we hammer someone like Villa, Sunderland or Newcastle, and it's looks absolutely bloody awful when we play anyone who is above 15th in the table.

My fear is that we act like a small club and keep Martinez on for another year, we end up finishing somewhere utterly average like 9th place next season, and his fanboys will be saying "Oh look at the progress, something special is on the horizon", so we carry on messing about with Martinez until the end of his contract in 2019. We will only have ourselves to blame.
It is the best football I've seen since 1987. Can't prove this obviously but even more reasonable Reds I know are surprised how fluent we are.

I'm not for sacking managers but I'm all for sacking Martinez, why?? He is incapable of change and his model clearly isn't working and everytime he opens his gob I want to vomit.

We will have to agree to disagree.

So the only argument to keep the fraud, is the possibility that he MIGHT turn it around? Whilst all the evidence from the past two years proves that's he's getting worse.

What about the possibility that he MIGHT take us down? Works both ways.

....also, Kendall and SAF improved and progressed over time. We appear to be in reverse at the moment.
I felt under Howard it changed very quickly and was about the right spark on the pitch, a cup run and young players starting to take responsibility. If anything things were a lot worse than they have been recently at start of 84.
Again I think similarities so far are pretty big. Doesn't prove a thing though, people are right to judge on what they see and it's all about what happens next. Kendall shook the defence up a lot when under pressure. Finding a Ratcliffe and Reid may be beyond Martinez.

Really? If we win the cup we've lifted the cup burden off us, we're back in Europe, we're going into our first transfer window and then season under our new billionaire. I'd say it would be looking quite nice.

This precisely why I have changed from pro Bobby to anti.

This should be a time of great optimism in Evertonia.

Wembley on the horizon, new investment about to transform the club, an exciting team containing many excellent young players, the stadium issue being sorted, an urbane manager who loves to play attacking football.

What's not to like?

But then we face the every day reality which is bringing down everyone connected with the club.

We cannot win a match.

And the urbane manager seems totally bereft of ideas as to how to change it.

There have been some games where we've played superb football, but they're the exception. This season, maybe Sothampton, Chelsea in the League at home, Sunderland and Villa at home, Stoke away. Add City at home and Boro away in the League Cup; I'm struggling to think of other games where we played really good football.

That's kind of how it happens though even with top notch teams. You look fluent in most games and in some it all clicks and you look brilliant. Nice to know this could happen. I'm genuinely tired of Everton teams who looked uncomfortable on the ball.
On a personal level if we don't win the league, or look threatened with relegation then I'd rather look back on a good season with some great performances than a season of solid home wins and efficiency away. Even if it cost us a few points.
And no, this doesn't mean 5th and 15th are same thing

Isn't this a pro Martinez thread?? It seems to be getting cluttered up with anti Martinez talk just like any other thread.

Can't we just have one we're we can discuss / look for positives IF the man stays here next year which I think there is still a very good chance of happening. It may be a small thread but if you only have the same anti Martinez talk that clutters up every thread on this board to add it would be nice if you could take them elsewhere.

I'd personally move him on just cause of the takeover as I think we're operating in a different market now and can attract/afford a proven winner to spend our money and send out a signal that we're operating at the top end of the market however if we were still skint in the Kenwright era I would have been happy to still give Martinez time. I still do see a lot of positives in things he does which hopefully can achieve long term success. I don't think he had the same ceiling managers like Moyes had and Martinez is capable of winning things and building a club.

Well you must really hate this side, as at the moment it's one of the most uncomfortable, dishevelled and disorganised sides I've ever seen on the ball
