The Ashes 2013 Thread

The core reason for Bresnan getting wickets is that he is targeted more by the Aussie batsmen for runs after seeing off the awesome new ball partnership of Anderson/Broad. He appears the softer option, so they take more chances, and because he can be relied upon to bowl a reasonable line and length, can set a tidy field for him. He's profiting off the hard work done early on.

That's no criticism of Bresnan, just a fact, and a part of the team game.

Made me chuckle a bit. Lost his Sussex contract too.

What you think of Woakes being given a test call up? Skeptical myself.

I'd say its more getting lads involved in the test set up more..
The interest in this series has long gone for me, it's not long until the next one is it.

I don't see the guy having a long term future with international cricket though, can't see the attraction at all. But then, they do pick Bresnan every time he's fit...

what we thinking for england team selection for final test?
im feeling a straight swap onions for bresnan, give bairstow and root one last chance to prove themselves.

Onions is injured. Bairstow and Root have long careers ahead of them, look at the Aussie team and tell me how chopping and changing is working out for them.

think Onions is out, I'd go with Tremlett anyway, far superior, Bairstow might well be looking at a last chance, for the time being at least, Root smashed 180 at Lords though, he should be persevered with

I would like to see Tremlett given a run, think we are missing a bit of aggression and the lad brings it. Having said that, can't fault Bresnen's contribution last test so I don't think Cook and Flower will switch things.

Root is going to be a star, just finding it difficult to bed in as an international opener, more experience he gets there though the better so might as well keep him up top in games that aren't crucial. Lot to come from Bairstow too but he needs a big knock soon. Pressure of this test so this is as good a chance as any for him.

same, every time i've seen him in ODI's, just never looked like he'd make the grade. Not too arsed about them giving a couple of youngsters a go, bit glad to see 5 bowlers not working though, always get miffed when i see people claiming england should bring in another bowler when they've been successful for years using 4.

i would have played tremlett though, give him a good confidence boost before aus away where he'll probably be 3rd seamer given finn's form.

cook needs to make up for that drop though, england would have been in a great position on this wicket if he'd have taken it. if their batting finally fires there's all the possibility they can still get a first innings lead here.

aussies' innings' have all been about 1 or 2 batsman rather than a team effort so there is still every possibility we can bowl them out cheaply and win this test.

what is certain though, i don't really want to see broad and anderson playing too much cricket until the winter, same for swann i suppose after his surgery, guys must be shattered by now, but they'll ahve to pick others for the one-day series.
