The best/most interesting car you’ve ever owned

My Bro on law will wholeheartedly agree. He's binned a few in his time, often other motorists not paying attention.

The thrill of opening them up is hard to beat, especially on track days!
4-5am peak summer, empty motorways, know the road, know where the camera's are. Once upon a time.

Another thing, night riding, (don't dare Hasselhoff me!) roads, towns, cities, all look and feel different shrouded by night time.

Many years ago was riding home one evening through farmers fields in late summer, and mist came up as the sun set and I was surrounded by a world of purple haze. (and no to Hendrix as well). Limped the bike out of the marshes/fields and got home. Never seen before or since. Remember it so vivid.

Wouldn't dream of it lol.

What a car, but what a colour.

Incredible car mate, the fact nearly every parts supplier opened their catalogue to them and said take your pick of whatever we sell is incredible. The best of the best parts in every department, beautiful interior (the bits of gold are a bit flashy for me) and an engine that goes to what 11,000rpm naturally aspirated. Even the rear window shape to force air into that engine, absolute dream of a motor

Jammy swines, did they buy them 2nd hand? If they bought them new they must have a load of Porsches already. Such an amazing piece of kit

Both yes I think. One was a collector who died recently in a plane crash. I saw him driving a 911, the GT3, an old body AMG, and at least one more very fast car I’ve forgotten. His son has a 4 door Porsche EV (Taycan?).

The other I’ve only seen driving a Cayman but he also has a beautiful blue Ferrari. But mostly he drives a gigantic King Ranch diesel Canyonero.

Seems as good enough a thread as any to garner opinions....

Got a 15 year old A3 that's going fairly strong - don't do nearly enough long distance in it though and I'm pretty sure the DPF is cooked so this December's MOT may be it's swansong. Last MOT passed with no advisories but took some effort and I suspect a tester looking the other way to get it through emissions.

Do like it though as the bodywork is fine and it's just a really solid family car that suits my needs and is cheap to run - £35 a year tax and sips diesel. I'm seriously considering putting money into it to keep it on the road if I can get away with a DPF clean or it's just a case of sensors needing replacing or whatever. A DPF replacement would pretty much be terminal though given the cost. Belt is due for changing as well but ploughing a good few quid in now could see it do another 100,000 miles.

Given the price of a 2nd hand car now sinking a good wedge of money into it now on those bigger repairs to get a few more years out of it might just make more financial sense than buying another second hand car which will likely have problems of it's own come into view pretty quickly given the end of the market I'd be shopping in.

Going down the leasing or PCP type stuff isn't something I'd consider.
You can get the Dpf removed and deleted

A thread for the petrol heads. Can be the absolute heap you secretly miss or the motor you’ve worked long and hard to put on your drive.

There’s a good mix of ages on here so I’m hoping for some absolute bangers of yore.

Mine is my Hyundai i30 N performance which racked up more speeding fines and new tyres than an F1 team. Selling it to move abroad had me closer to tears than when my mother died.

Shout out to my old Peugeot which was so prone to overheating that you had to put the heater on full to vent the engine anytime the sun shined meaning I showed up to work looking like I’d been scuba diving

If I had my choice and money were no object it'd be a blue 60's Maserati 3500, engine swapped with an LS8, if it were even possible; I'm assuming it would be if money were no object. That or a specially commissioned Singer.

I wouldn't want anything "original", time shows old cars for what they are...old.

There’s a guy named Bisi that built a 1,000 hp Odyssey and while it’s probably too aggressive to be a DD I could handle a calmed down version of that.

1k BHP? I'm going to the grocery store usually and typically have adequate time. I'd eventually kill myself with that ; 350-500 BHP is plenty. I've done time in high HP cars, it's not my gig. Light, nimble and manageable power is my juice of preference, I'm not one of these:

Oddly enough the only dreams I have for cars these days is reliability and good value for cost. I always wanted to own a 911 and would still enjoy this I think. I guess if I had a dream car it would maybe be an Audi Rs6/Avant but again maybe all of that has passed me by.

Now if we are talking dream transport I can name maybe half a dozen airplanes I’d like to own.
For some reason I've always fancied one of these...
