The best/most interesting car you’ve ever owned

Your internet history must be…interesting

Probably ..... I'm in to carbon fibre (or fiber if it comes from China) ATM

I don't know why but I've never bought a car yet that I haven't modified in some way - usually for extra power then get rid before it explodes. My greatest exploit was taking an Audi A3 2 litre diesel from the standard 150hp to near 400hp - but the stage 4 turbo proved to be something of a disappointment as the lag was too great. Mind you, hit 2500rpm and it went berserk (& sideways so I knew I had overcooked it a tad)

First car I bought as an adult was a 2 door Toyota Tacoma. It looked like a dog but had that dog in 'em and was a wonderful car to own until I had kids. My favorite is my current car, a mini-Canyonero (seats only 7). Here she is the first time I got her stuck.

I don't get stuck - I do the pulling out

Most of interesting was an Alfa Gtv 2.0.

Beautiful car, both in looks and to drive, with an engine note, that was just perfection.

Electrics were made of spaghetti and you just didn’t know when it would work or not.

The rain affected it’s starting and when it was really hot, the rain immobiliser sometimes wouldn’t switch off 😂

I bought a 2005 Jaguar Type S R in 2015. Only 107,000 Kms, (Canada).
Beautiful car, 400 hp. Only problem was it had an oil leak which my mechanic couldn't fix. I sold it a couple of months ago. Only sold it because we only need one car now. Sorry to see it go.

Seems as good enough a thread as any to garner opinions....

Got a 15 year old A3 that's going fairly strong - don't do nearly enough long distance in it though and I'm pretty sure the DPF is cooked so this December's MOT may be it's swansong. Last MOT passed with no advisories but took some effort and I suspect a tester looking the other way to get it through emissions.

Do like it though as the bodywork is fine and it's just a really solid family car that suits my needs and is cheap to run - £35 a year tax and sips diesel. I'm seriously considering putting money into it to keep it on the road if I can get away with a DPF clean or it's just a case of sensors needing replacing or whatever. A DPF replacement would pretty much be terminal though given the cost. Belt is due for changing as well but ploughing a good few quid in now could see it do another 100,000 miles.

Given the price of a 2nd hand car now sinking a good wedge of money into it now on those bigger repairs to get a few more years out of it might just make more financial sense than buying another second hand car which will likely have problems of it's own come into view pretty quickly given the end of the market I'd be shopping in.

Going down the leasing or PCP type stuff isn't something I'd consider.

I'm a self confessed petrol head and have been involved with unusual cars most of my life, won't bore people with all the details though.
If I had to name 2 i've had I'd go for a car that was my all time hero, a thing called a Caterham Jonathan Palmer Evolution commonly known as the Caterham JPE, i'd had many Caterhams but this was the Holy grail car. It snatched the world 0-60 record and 0-100-0 back in the nineties deposing the Ferrari F40 of the title, then lost it to the Mclaren F1. Some feat when you see the eye watering difference in price between the cars. Sadly they say "never meet your hero's", it was just unusable on the road, nothing below 6,000 rpm then all hell broke loose, impossible to drive around town in. The other was a classic mini a few years back, shell had been redone to as new and had been fitted with a space frame incorporating a touring car spec 2.0 Vauxhall 2.0 DOHC red top. Car was unfinished and cheap, I finished it and loved it. Could be a pussycat or a Jet fighter. Sold it on and regret it, although I may have a chance of buying it back. Still got a couple of unusal cars in the garage but now looking to sell them and get a nice usable classic, just don't know what classic

Even if the DPF is kaput, there’s always a way around everything.

The owners forums are an absolute goldmine for sorting stuff like this out.
