The David Moyes debate

Some Serious questions now-

1) For the money we've spent do you think we have a strong squad? ....... Ish.....

2) What league position does our squad warrant?........ Probably 6th

3) How many players are we missing to challenge the top 4?
...... RB, RM, LB cover, LM, and another striker.....

Agreed, its unfair to make a sweeping statement like that, given that the person in question isn't completely inept.

If Moyes left, I'd be more than happy to see him take over, the thought of playing attractive positive football is appealing.

IMO, Moyes has it right half the time. He knows how to play against teams that are expected to batter us, when we're at home. He's the master of keeping it tight and nicking one.

However, when we have to attack, he practically has no clue. Would be good to get a manager who is a happy medium of the two.

Pretty much spot on. Norwich and Stoke at home being perfect examples.

Nett spend is just a muddying of the waters....... actual spend gives the clearer picture mate.....like i said earlier the RS only had a net spend of around 35 million this year but they still blew over 100 million on players......kinda negates the net spend argument ...... in my eyes at least. You either spend money well or you dont.................moyes on the whole does.

I'm going to work out how many players we need to replace with better to have what I would call a really nice team.

One.
Two.
Three.

Four.
Five.
Six.

Seven.
Eight.

We need eight new players if we want to legitimately win a trophy by beating good teams.

So basically a quick consensus is that with the money spent we are pretty much at the level we should be and on average 4 players to get up to where we want to be?!

The only way we are ever going to do that is with new ownership/investment, I think you hooded assassins are venting at the wrong villain here. People feel like they need a change and can't touch kenwright so go after Moyes?!

I've said it earlier and I'll say again- we played some wonderful stuff with the midget gems if arteta, Pienaar and Osman based on a solid back line.

We need money, that's it. I don't understand why people would risk a change when we are pretty much where we deserve to be with the money that's been invested.

So playing with more flair means losing more games? Intresting

Del. Overall, given the mentality of Moyes or similar, it probably would.
In general, Moyes will probably squeeze more points of a given squad than most managers.
As far as I'm concerned the question is, would you rather :-

a ) See better football but put up with ( in likelihood ) a lower league position or
b ) Play the % game, end up with a higher leauge position and more prize money ?

From a cash point of view it comes down to :-

a ) Higher league position, with p^ssed of fans and so ( maybe ) less bums on seats or
b ) More chance of a cup, but lower league position

In an ideal world, you wouldn't have to choose between the two, but in reality, if you have a dour manager who can't change his ways for the big games then (a) is more likely.

It's a serious question and basically puts fans wants up against cash. Personally, as a fan, Id' rather have a manager who has the balls to take a risk at the right moment as opposed to playing for extra time / pens, but, wtf. I'm only a Wool ;)

That conclusion doesn't necessarily follow.

You can say the first team core is solid and we are where we should be without invalidating the argument the manager cant act clearly and boldly when our fleeting chances of glory come...and then go.

The cup semi was turned on its head by that Distin back pass. We were the better side in the first half and we coped when they flew out the gates in the 2nd.

If going bold meant going for broke at 1-1 with 4 minutes remaining then I'm glad he didn't.

It's by fine margins Davek

4 derby wins out of 23.

That isn't a fine margin, it's not good enough.

Pretty much agree with all that.

We need to ensure we bring in those players this summer with no messing around.

Not having Pienaar and another proper winger and ball player was a killer.

Next time around Barkley will be available too.

i remember when we used to beat liverpool most days in the derbys but we also were lucky to stay up the same seasons
i rather be a good football club that are most seasons in the top 7 than beating the RS.
