The David Moyes debate

But he has Gibson behind him now. Surely a DM just beasts and doesn't need cover, Essien, Parker for eg dont.

Its just something that made me think.

But hes not a playmaker, he ideally should have a playmaker alongside him, something Gibson isnt.

Anyway I personally think Royle is being a bit harsh on Fellaini.

Yeah same here.

He's not in the team to score goals anymore than the 5 players behind him are.

He's there to break up and play and then start our attacks, other players are in the team to score goals. But unlike a lot of other defensive midfielders in the Prem he has the extra quality on the ball that he can boss the midfield.

Goals and assists would be nice but its not his role so a strange criticism to aim at him really.

He wants to see more for 15mill was his reasoning

In some games he bosses the entire midfield and makes it his.

He cant do everything mate, hes gotta stick at what hes good at, scoring goals isnt really his job.

Liverpool paid 18m for Jordan Hendersen and he cant even play football, we paid 15m for Fellaini and he destroys midfields.

So what is he good at? He has arguably the worst disciplinary record in the league over the last few years, his defensive attributes are lamentable, he stood looking up in the air for 30 seconds after Carroll headed in yesterday wondering where he'd got to. His passing is alright in the sense that he keeps the ball most of the time, but 90% of his passes are sideways or backward. He's nowhere near as mobile as other top DM's ala Parker, Toure, Mascherano, Essien. I'm just looking for reasons why this guy is our record signing when he isn't a matchwinner and he isn't a gamechanger. I just don't feel he's improved radically during his time he almost epitomises Moyes transfer record. He's alright .

I could be being hypercritical but i've just never seen it with Felli. If we put Rodwell in with a black wig on, I don't think there would be a noticeable difference in our performances.

Christ mate, specsavers. Immediately. Are you serious?

oh I agree. But he doesn't just sit, some say hes box to box.

If he just destroyed midfields, we wouldn't need Gibson, and arteta wouldn't have been our deepest midfielder when he was here...and why some say Rodwell gets in his way.

Again I think its down to how we are set up and our tatics to have 2 sitting midfielders who are there to pass out wide.

I am finally at the point where I'm ready for him to move on and start another chapter in his career.

Its just a question relating to Moyes ability in the transfer market. If he were put up for sale today for £15.5m, who would be biting our arm off for him?. Is he all we expected from a record signing to push us on? Is he our standout best player or even one of our best players on a consistent basis? Is he winning/saving us games?.

Believe it or not, its not an unwarranted dig at Felli. He's a good player, I just feel he's an alright signing at that price. I'm not questioning him as a Footballer, at least thats not my agenda. The issue is Moyes decision to spend £15.5m on him at the time.

I put up a thread for player of the Season.

He was in EVERYBODYS top 3.

And now your saying Moyes was wrong to buy him for 15m?

Sigh.

I give up.
