The end of Hibbo?

Tony did defense and tony did defense pretty well here. In all likelihood he doesn't fit in the new system but a Championship side and/or a bottom feeder prem side could shore up their D by employing Hibbo.

Always played with class for us. A true Evertonian.

Maybe we could get 20M from Moyes for Hibbert so that Rooney will stay at Utd to hang with his best bud.

Aside from the language in the last sentence, you simply cannot apply that rule unless you don't rate Leighton Baines, and that would be totally absurd.

I agree with the rest of your post.

Love Bainsey mate, thing is Baines can do both very well, Hibbert defends very well but going forward doesn't as much - this is all obvious, the thing is people say he's a terrible footballer, can't attack etc, when in actual fact he's nowhere near as bad as people on here say.

I agree the game has moved on, but I still feel theres place for defenders like Hibbert - its just up to managers and coaches to work it - whats the point in a wingback getting forward if he's just gonna hit a brick wall every time he tries to bomb on? Players like Hibbert would work well on the right in a back 3, allowing a 5 man midfield with 2 defensive midfielders and wingers and 2 up front doing Hibberts work.

Maybe not for us anymore but a more physical team in the middle of the park it could work

Edit: apologies for the language in the previous post

never complained about not playing - played out of position against Man City no less and had one of the best games I remember watching him play for us.

Heitinga and Hibbo that night were absolutely boss.

And don't even mentioned big Denis Straq...

I can't think of a player who fits the Martinez mold LESS than el'Hibbo. Offers nothing going forward, has the touch of a child molester, and the footballing brain of a Div 2 player. As much as I admire loyalty in a player, you have to question his appetite if all he wants is to stay 2nd/3rd choice left back for us.

Theres a lot of Premier League teams that could do a lot worse, he's head and shoulders above Championship quality mate.

Sorry, if you take off the blue-tinted glasses for a minute, why are there consistently 13/14 teams who finish below us but have never tried to prise Hibbo from us? Surely if he was the great asset that some make him to be, then he would improve plenty of PL squads and surely someone would have tried to tempt him away?

How do you know they haven't? Not every single offer that comes in for a player makes the light of day. Remember a couple of seasons ago Spurs no less tried to buy Phil bloody Neville? Half the defender and a team pushing for Champions league wanted to buy him...

Hes been with us since he was 10 or 11, blue through and through and is a good solid defender - why sell?

to coleman? or even Stones?

yes, to everyone!

And we'd be bored out of our skulls with the complete lack of imagination in our play down that flank. Coleman's going to be a better defender than Hibbert ever was anyway.
Did you watch the game today? Noone even bothered passing the ball to Coleman! I don't care about "lack of imagination" the midfielders and forwards can do that, we need defenders that can actually defend; that can read the game; that are solid and soldier on regardless!

this.

gobsmacked by the hate on here for Hibbo. Shameful.

I can't believe people would want hibbert in the team. There were so many goals given away where he just backed off the defender, letting them get a cross in leading to a goal, or just got caught for pace with a defender getting in behind him. Not seen much of that from Coleman....

I look forward to seeing the sister thread "The end of Osman".

Ossie has been a far better player and more consistent player for us down the years than Hibbert, and unlike Hibbo I think he still has it about him to improve our squad. He's far more of a Martinez player - technically very good and a decent footballing brain. Just a shame he isn't 5 years younger. Should not start every game but then you can say that about all but half a dozen players.
