The EU deal

Anyone with half a brain must realise we're better off in than out, won't they ?

There are emotional, Little Britain, reasons for wanting out, and I can understand people getting caught up in that, but I'd hope that anyone with a smidgeon of intelligence would recognise the benefits of being in the EU.

The clincher for me is that Boris Johnson wants us out. Boris is highly intelligent but also a fool. If he becomes leader of the Tories he's our best chance of a Labour party under Corbyn winning the next election ( which would be ace )

However, if Boris says Out is good, then I'm defo in the Remain camp.

The problem is, most people (and I include my own father in this, who despite the irony of him living in Spain wants to leave so 'we can make our own decisions') are influenced by the jingoistic stuff the brexit campaign are putting out.

'We send the EU £50m a week lets spend it on the nhs' and the rest of that nonsense is swallowed up by these muppets.

That's the problem, all of those with half a brain do want us to remain, those of us with a full brain wish to leave........

It is controlled by the member states actually. What is all this awful legislation forced upon us by the EU. All I see is a union of countries regulating to ensure standards and safety. The likes of Farage and other 'outside rights' dont like anything that slows down the process of making a fast few qui

And..corruption pervades certain governments. The EU does not endorse corruption. Again we can see from your table that very high standards exist in the EU and they are places from which the mighty UK can learn something.
It appears that Greece is corrupt as hell which might be why Merkel has been tough.
It also shows individual countries are operating with autonomy.
What about regulation that regulates what size of vegetables that can be sold?

The problem with over regulation is that it benefits big business and big business is in control of the process in the EU. A huge company can deal with this but a small company finds this difficult and still stay profitable or even stay in business.

I'm not against regulation per say. Like with most things it's not a black and white issue but it is used to give big business a competitive advantage. I don't want to live in an economy where every industry is limited to a few big multinationals. That won't be good for workers or consumers in the long run.

Personally I value workers rights such as paid maternity leave rather than daft stories about tomatoes have to be X size or you can't sell them, go to any market in the country and you'll see all kinds of shapes and sizes of fruit and veg for sale. I think you'll find that is supermarket standards driven.

If you value workers rights then the importation of cheap labour goes against that. Are you seriously suggesting that a future Conservative or Labour Government will get rid of maternity leave because we leave this under performing German benefiting club.......

yes, I specifically meant that any future government would get rid of paid maternity leave rather than using that as an example to scoff at a silly comment about vegetable sizes being dictated by the EU, Peter.

80% of our GDP is purely generated within the UK, a further 10% is generated via exports to the RoW, only 10% is generated via those trading with the EU. Yet all of our businesses, 100% of them, including small shops, pubs, and small tradesmen MUST obey EU regulations....why?......

Why do you believe that anyone in the UK would vote for the abolition of maternity leave ? Why do you believe that any party would put this in a manifesto, manifesto's that we the UK populace vote for........

Hang on.Greece has made a total balls of its economy and bankrupted itself. In order to borrow money it has had to adhere to spending cuts in order to get in shape to repay.
Now i dont believe in austerity as the best answer but Germany has managed itself better than most and is the prime lender in the eu. Austerity is harsh but bankrupty is harder. I really am sympathetic to the Greek people but it is their previous goverments that made the mess not the countries bailing them out. Greece has not left the euro because europe is its life raft.
Greece didn't bankrupt itself. Greece was lent a load of money because while the banks knew Greece wasn't Germany the banks lent to them at German rates knowing Germany/EU was on the hook if things went wrong.

If Greece was outside the EU then it would never have been given the money in the first place.

That's the problem with the EU. Greece isn't like Germany. Germany isn't like Greece. Each country has it's own advantages and disadvantages and to try and treat them all the same was always going to lead to this i.e. austerity.

And that will happen to the UK too once the population of poor people increase in the UK. The advantages of immigration simply won't grow the UK economy fast enough to keep up the disadvantages of a increase in population of poor people i.e. the cost of housing, public services, benefits, wages depreciation etc

Eventually the EU will force the UK into austerity just like it has done to Greece and big business and the financial elite will have got what they wanted.
