The Everton Board Thread 2014/15

Is it time for change?

  • I'm happy with the way thing are. Kenwright and the Board should stay.

  • Kenwright and the board need to go. We need change.

Thread's being directed off topic here.....boards not doing too well.......agreed what are the BU going to do about it ?

Dunno. To use an analogy (and hopefully not be accused of taking the thread off topic), if the banks in this country are corrupt, it's not the responsibility of a HSBC or Natwest customer to fix them. But the customers are well within their rights to point out the banks faults and call for accountability.

The EFC boards' faults are consistently pointed out. The local media are in the clubs pocket, for a variety of reasons already well documented (see the recent furore over the Echo) and don't report on them. The national media doesn't want to know as we're not a big enough news story.

It is not the BU's responsibility to find a buyer or investors. If City Talk's business analyst is to be believed, the EFC board are turning down approaches to sell the club, including the would-be buyers of WBA.

Nothing is going to change, until either BK dies (not wishing death on him for one second by the way) or we get relegated, and even that 2nd one might not change anything.

All anyone can keep doing is pointing out the errors and the mistakes of the EFC board, in the hope that one day it gains some media traction. There is honour in being a 'plucky football club, punching above its weight', but most of those clubs portrayed in that way haven't won the league 9 times and don't have an average gate of 38000, or who haven't got 3 failed stadium moves to their name, or don't have poor commercial performance in comparison to rivals.

We should be aiming higher than the mediocrity that we currently 'enjoy' and nobody should ever have to apologise for having high standards or for trying to hold club custodians to account.

I have read the posts and really think that the people mentioned to do with Everton management are jumping up and down really to cover their backsides in regards to their many failings over the last decade and making a Mount Everest of a mole hill.

Does anybody have a number or email address for the group of normal, everyday Chelsea supporters that brokered the deal with Abramovich?

I assume they were responsible for introducing him to the club after a period of civilised discourse with Ken Bates. Hopefully they'll be able to offer us some advice on how to achieve a similar result.

Lads, let's argue the substance of the debate, if we are going to argue at all, but not each other.

I'll just repeat what I've said many times - if there's going to be criticism of individuals or the Board let's just be accurate with those criticisms and allegations, otherwise all credibility is destroyed.

Let's focus on getting the changes required to make this club a great force in English and European football once more.

Nowadays all you seem to need is money.

To be honest i've got a major problem with anyone falsely & incorrectly accusing fellow evertonians of criminal activity and then trying to claim moral high ground over said group of evertonians

I would suggest problem solving skills mate

That sounds familiar mate. Do you have the same problem with KEIOC uploading videos/canvassing Kirkby residents about fellow Evertonians engaged in football hooliganism and violence? I understand KEIOC are still quite an active member in the BU.

Heres the apology:

Unfortunately I made grave error of judgement. During the past few months I have been approached by local residents opposed to the stadium development who viewed their concerns that this kind of development would have a detrimental effect on the local community. Often citing anti social behaviour and football related violence. Personally, I was of the opinion that it would assist local residents make a balanced judgement because to make a considered decision you need to look at the negatives as well as the positives.

It was never my intention to besmirch the good name of Everton Football club or the residents of Kirkby, and apologise unreservedly to anybody who may have taken offence to any comments I may have made yesterday

I deplore all forms of violence and do my utmost to promote Everton Football Club Evertonians, and no matter where I travel whether it be at home or abroad. I will continue to campaign for Everton Football club to be open & transparent and include all match-going Evertonians in the ballot process.

Perhaps now with the benefit of hindsight my approach in the future will be more considered.

I believe in being responsible for my own actions and I am willing to tender my resignation at our next committee meeting.

Yours sincerely

Alfie Hincks

But...But....But....Key word....."Vitriol".

So in 2013-14, we finished 5th and we were quite good.

That year we made about £120m. £88m was from the tv deals, 19m from ticket sales, 8m from sponsorship and 4m from catering.

Arsenal who finished 4th, made £304m. Because they were in the champions league they made 121 million from tv deals compared to our 88 miliion. and that extra 33 million is so often seen as the magic bullet that will put us on equal terms if only we could make 4th ignoring that arsenal make an extra 81 million in ticket sales because of their new stadium, and an extra 66 million in merchandise and sponsorship. That's the real gulf in money.

And we are not going to be able to make that up unless we have a fan base that can pay an extra 81 million in buying tickets, which we don't.

But Arsenal are really good at gouging their fans and have a global rich fan base that most clubs don't. So lets compare us with other people

Ignoring tv deals and ticket sales: We make 12.7m from other commerce. That's on the low end for an established pl club. The big 6 spenders get over 50m each, newcastle make 26, villa 22, West ham 20, Sunderland, 16. We're about 12th and making about what the like of southampton, stoke, fulham do.

So whether that's good or bad depends on your opinion of what it should be. Certainly we have been one of the best 7 teams in the league for a decade without that ever really coming through in terms of sponsorship. Our commercial deals are that of a southampton or a sunderland not that of a tottenham or a liverpool. The question is given we're not london based and we haven't won trophies recently whether this is a reflection of our current positions or that of our failed policies.

And lets go back to ticket sales. We made 19m from tickets sold. That's actually pretty good. We sell a lot of tickets, we don't charge too much (we're about the 11th most expensive to watch: our most expensive season ticket is cheaper than liverpool cheapest one) but we sell them.

Only 7 teams beat that 19m. Tottenham got 35, Newcastle 26, Man U 108, Man City 47, RS 51, Chelsea 71 and Arsenal 100.

But here's the problem with seeing a new stadium as being the solution. We are already currently making more money on tickets than the likes of sunderland and villa and west ham who are getting better sponsorship and merchandise. If that is our level in terms of selling product and attracting business investors and the board isn't just doing a bad job in commerce then we are going to struggle to improve that by selling company boxes and more expensive season tickets. Because that market is already being tapped to the full.

So then when is the next AGM? Cannot wait for the ground move update and a poised echo reporter ready to wade in on the latest guff coming out of L4.

Here we go again.

That quote would have been from 2007 and Hincks resigned from any involvement with KEIOC in 2007.
