The Everton Board Thread 2014/15

Is it time for change?

  • I'm happy with the way thing are. Kenwright and the Board should stay.

  • Kenwright and the board need to go. We need change.

As much as I appreciate that BK will never win in the eyes of some, I feel it's time to give credit where credit's due.

We've signed two of of our young stars on lengthy contracts (Coleman and Barkley), we've singed up last season's surprise player (Barry), we've got a brand new face already, for real money (Besic) AND WE'VE JUST BOUGHT ROMELU LUKAKU!!

Critising the board after this weeks' events seems quite crass to me. Do we laugh at an over weight person in a gym who is clearly trying to fix a problem?

Whether it's the TV money or the Fellaini money, it doesn't matter, come on, the board appear to be backing a manager who wants to kick on. Maybe they trust Roberto and didn't trust Moyes 100%.

great post mate, i salute you.

Football is a strange business, it's the only business I can think of where to be successful the Board is compelled (assuming they have confidence in the manager and the resources available) to perform in line with the manager's expectations and not the other way round.

It's not unreasonable to think that RM has moved the expectations of the Club higher and the Board has been forced to follow. I remain a supporter of Moyes for the work he did during his time here, but I realise now that he was deferential to the Board's wishes, whilst a manager with a truly winning mentality forces the Board to be deferential to his wishes and requirements.

RM has that winning mentality and just maybe that mentality is beginning to up the performance of the Board.

The key difference is that under RM the Board follows the manager, under DM the manager followed the Board

Interesting article, although I'm not sure I get your point.

Bill seems to be running the theatre business like the club. I can't see you can accuse him of using the club to get rich quick, although 15 years is nothing on a cosmic scale. I could see the parallels with football in the article though.

Actually, its the other way round..and I've said it many times on this forum and previously on the original Blue Kipper...Bill tries to run athe football club like his theatre business, and, its a different ball game(oops..sorry about that !) Thats always been his main problem...the methods that he uses successfully in his main business don't neccesarily work in the business of football. Mind you, the new TV money and Martinez may have changed his attitude!

what the heck are you babling about?
"delivered badly" you want circus and donkeys, eh?

No, the exact opposite.

Last thing I wanted was more flash and bang and suspense for his contract extension...

After signing Besic and no press conference, and after signing Barry with no press conference, knowing we were really, really close to getting Lukaku and then being told there was a press conference in however many hours we waited, led most of us to believe it was something else...

Ultimately, it ended up being good news that felt flat because of what we had been led to believe. Our fault of course for not managing our own expectation, but why call a press conference for a contract extension, and not for new signings?

I'm not anti Bill at all and you'll find that my history is one of defending him against most of the BS he gets, just think this was a case of good news delivered in a way that made a lot of people, can't quite explain it right, disappointed is the wrong word because it's great news, but perhaps a little underwhelmed when it should of just been a superb moment.

Seems this thread now has the majority supporting Bill Kenwright, with the minority still laying into him.

A very decent and welcome change to how it was in previous years (or rather the closed thread preceding this one).

I think @GrandOldTeam may do a poll at the end of the window of how many of us support our chairman and how many want him out. The old poll had something like 75/25 in favour of a change, be interesting to see if that ratio still holds.

Besic had a press conference though. Earlier in the day before Lukaku. Not surprisingly it what was somewhat overshadowed by the breaking news.

Had he not already signed days before that?
Yeah I admit, I did miss the press conference before Lukaku, but neither of these things had happened when Barkley was announced, so don't really come into it.
All many including myself knew, was that in terms of press conferences, we had signed Besic, and nothing, we had signed Barry and nothing, we were deep into talks with Lukaku, then a press conference was announced, and it turned out to be a contract extension, albeit for our most promising youngster.

Its all awesome news, just the Barkley one could of been delivered better for me.

We have spent money we saved on all the profits over the last few years in transfers

For me we should have even more cash this year due to the tv money so if BK really wants to show ambition he should spend more! He has not given us a budget for as long as I remember. Always sold to buy. Please everton fans do not be nieve on BK.

If we go and spend another 20m and don't sell, then maybe I'll give BK and the board some respect for showing ambition

I'm pleased with the running of the club at present but this is such a precarious time to judge it. As @dholliday suggests above, the end of the summer would be a good time to get a feel.

I would expect us to spend more money and I would be impressed if we could make as good a use of the loan market as we did last year.

I also expect to see this stadium debate pop up in advance of Christmas.

So signing one of the best young players in the league isn't ambitious?

I'm no kenwright fan but he along with the club as a whole deserve great credit for this

Martinez ambitious yes. It's ten years too late from Kenwright. Stadium and investment all false hope. And who knows what tricks he has up his sleeve before the end of the window. None of us know his potential intentions to sell players
