You're confusing divisions with leagues (which is, admittedly, confusing if you haven't grown up with American sports). In the 17 years that Moores owned the Padres, they won their division (a four or five team subset of the league) 4 times, which seems reasonable.
I'll admit i know very little of how these leagues and divisions work which if that is the case i will stand corrected. wiki tells me one title though in 1998, which title is that then they won?

Their division, the NL (National League) West, is the worst division in Baseball. The Padres are not considered a good team by any stretch of the imagination.

I'm keeping my powder dry.

I don't want to fall into the trap of assuming that a takeover will mean winning the league next season, as much as I'd love it.

I'm not trying to put a downer on this news that a lot of fans have wanted for a while, merely trying to be realistic.

We certainly need something new. Just as we did when Kenwright replaced Johnson and saved us from potentially dire straights a la Leeds Utd, it's time to get new investment in to prevent stagnation - we need capital simply to retain our current squad and stand still, let alone move forward.

Cautiously waiting to see what happens here.

Their Division Title. Compare it to winning the group stage of a tournament (but the group stage consists of 162 games). After that you go into the playoffs

Well, leaving aside the question of whether or not the NL West is the worst division in baseball (which is arguable, to say the least), you're correct that the Padres have not been considered a good team. They were better under Moores' ownership than they were without him, though, which is really the only relevant point.

This is the sensible course of action at the moment I think.

The positive is that they seem very good at building upon things and making clubs generate more profit whilst increasing the worth of the club.

To do that you need to invest so I'm sure they will.

Also isn't the baseball teams wages under him significantly higher than it is with us right now?

yeah this is prob the most sensible reaction, we all just want everton to be better really

although you being my nemesis, i obviosuly completely disagree with it

No, they won the National League in 1998. They won their division title three other times.

A quick primer on American sports, since it seems to be causing so much confusion. The major American sports leagues (not including MLS) are broken into two halves (based on geography for hockey and basketball and based on historical reasons for the NFL and baseball), and then those halves are further subdivided into divisions. Confusingly, the halves in baseball are called the American League and the National League. The team that finishes first during the season in each division (plus some other runners up based on records, sort of like how third place teams in the Euros would move on to knockouts) goes to a postseason tournament against other teams from their half of the league. The winner of each half of the league goes on to a final against the winner from the other half. The Padres specifically won their division four times during Moores' ownership, and lost in the first round of the postseason three of those times. The fourth time, they won the first two rounds of the tournament (making them the winners of the National League), but lost in the overall final (to the winner of the American League).
