I agree to a certain extent of what you have said Steve, i think Bill had good intentions but the type of people he has brought on board are ruthless to say the least. He beat the attempted takeover by Gregg with the mysterious Samuelson fronting an investment group.
Then brought an even more ruthless partner to the table of Earl/Green. Now, Bill could find a perfect owner to run us but do you really think his choice holds much sway with Earl/Green?? He was backed initially by the Gregg family, I'm sure that debt is now owed to Earl/Green. They will be the ones with all the aces up the sleeves. They will gladly wait for a maximum return on its investment than the right owner to take us forward. They don't care one iota about us.
One day, we will get the full story of what has happened behind closed doors, but it will only come out once one of the main players has passed away.
Good post. Ironically, Gregg had Bill to thank for a large part of his success in business. Gregg used to buy run down theatres, do a cheap refurbishment to comply with Health and Safety etc., and put Bills shows into the theatres. Bill Kenwright did, and still does, arrange tours of provincial theatres with budget versions of successful shows, and he fills theatres this way because the show already has a 'name' and is very marketable. Bill does this very well indeed, and a lot of his shows tour all the time, so he and his backers earn regular money. He produces shows that look a lot better than they should, given that he keeps costs at a very minimum(sound familiar?). Gregg built up by a steady routine of theatre refurbs, and Bill Kenwright shows. It was of course Bill who 'sold' the idea of the KD to Gregg...and Gregg smelled big money right away(Big money for Gregg...not for Everton). When the banks did not accept the terms of the deal Gregg offered Everton, and pulled the £30 million that had been available( Bill wrongly used the word 'ringfenced' and this simple word is thrown back at him regularly by the usuals. Bill should have said 'we can get the money if the banks/financial institutions think the terms of the KD deal are satisfactory.' Another example of Bills enthusiasm and exaggeration harming his credibility.) Gregg took the hump and fell out with Bill big style. How could he harm Bill the most? By taking from him the thing he loved most, Everton Football Club. Hence Bills 'show' with Samuelson etc....perfectly legitimate subterfuge , particularly in the theatre, an industry based on exaggeration, subterfuge, and smoke and mirrors. Not as successful, unfortunately, in football, when supporters are waiting for £15 million to be spent on players.
Phil Green has allegedly invested in Bills theatre shows for years..it a hobby for many of the mega rich...and sometimes they make a few bob...an investment in Phantom Of The Opera since the start would have earned a tidy sum by now. Phil is a Kenwright family friend and certainly gives Bill 'advice' whether this translates into financial help, I'm not sure. If it does, it could well be help to Bill and not directly Everton. It may find its way to Everton through Bill, or it might be worth looking at a possible link with Greens presumed theatrical investment and money into Everton. I doubt that any of this will be illegal, Green is a good and clever businessman, thats why he's were he is. When Gregg had been beaten and wanted out, Green probably recommended Earl, and he was 'sold' on the idea because of the upcoming DK enterprise. Green would also have an interest in the retail possibilities at the KD development...but then he was interested in any new retail development in the country, not just in Knowsley. That was his business.
So a lot of what you say in your post above could well be the case. At present the club is in a reasonable /good position...it is further progress that concerns all supporters, and for that to happen, a lot of work has to be done by a lot of people regarding a new stadium, investment, supporters PR, and in other areas. We WILL get there in the end, but I couldn't hazard a guess at how far away the 'end' is.
