The Everton Board Thread

He literally didn't want the best manager in the world. He actively lobbied to not appoint the best manager in the world. His words not mine. Now that is shocking.
I believe that his argument was that Arteta would have been a better fit.
Given that Carlo did the offski at the first flash of a bit of Real Madrid leg it looks like he was right

Ancelotti checked out once he was made aware what the budget was going to be that summer. We still had a chance of 4th until the last 5 or 6 games.

Then Benitez comes in to spend the 1.5 million warchest.

I think it was probably a bit of both. Let's be honest, I understand why Carlo would be attracted by Real with their stature, his history there and competing.

He's won a CL with them since, so it's pretty much be justified. It was made easier however by the fact that the promises from the board were broken.

A £1.5m war chest and the need to cull some of the squad to balance the book isn't what he would have been sold.

O yeah back to back lower mid table wasnt great, but we were still decent, maybe we should of stuck with Roberto, but it easy to say that now, but the club that Koeman took over was fine, he then had a massive budget to spend and blew it without replacing Lukaku
Koeman was a disaster for us. On paper he looked like he should have been good.

I wonder if this deluded person is still 'planning for Champions League football'?

Looking back at it, what a very arrogant comment to make.

It's Championship football she's planning for now, that's if she's not run out of town. She's needs to be jettisoned out of the club soon.

I dont understand people who blame the board and not Moshiri or people who blame Moshiri but not the board

They are all to blame and ultimate responsibility lies with the owner. They all need to go.
Its just a disfunctional setup. All the poor decisions recently im sure have been driven by Moshiri. But if you have a board that are not strong enough to say NO we are not hiring Benitez (as an example) then the lot of them need to go. You can get the best board in place but if they are in a weak position in terms of how much power and influence they have then whats the point of them.

That’s why I’ve come around to the thought of being run by a private equity firm. They specialise in turning around the fortunes of failing businesses. We will be run tightly with strict financial controls and the emphasis on youth development rather than buying in - won’t be pretty and will take years but I think this is the only way.

Brace yourselves
Its what i hope for, but some call it a bad attitude and want to go from where we are to instant success.

I've got no problem with him not walking away from an extremely lucrative job if he didn't act holier than thou about it. Don't bring up how much of a mess everything was and is if you were a part of it and did nothing to stop it and at many points contributed to it.

He was at best another arse kissing yes man who let the board get away with it. An actual resignation at a time when we weren't on a 10 game winless streak under Benitez would've went a long way to highlighting how bad the problems were. He didn't even need to resign he could've just not signed a new contract in 2021 given he would've been well aware of our impending FFP doom. He could've made himself a hero if he stood down when Benitez was appointed but instead he tried to stay on the gravy train.
My recollections of when Brands departed was wasn't it shortly after he got harangued as he was leaving a match probably the first time the abuse was aimed at him?
He cacked himself mumbling something about it not being his fault and resigned shortly after realising his time was up

If they think it's a 'bad' attitude, I'd suggest they're either naive or just clueless. This club isn't going to be turned around quickly - it's likely too late for that.

We're now shackled by years of mismanagement that has led us to plummet towards relegation, a significant loss of reputation and serious financial woes.

The % of wages to turnover has to be drastically reduced; we're going to be lumbered with the cost of the new stadium, which in the short-term may be painful.

But, we also need to invest in the squad, which will be difficult with all the above hence why we have to adopt a strategy of youth with sell on value.

So as @Mutzo Nutzo said, it's now all about being efficient, and for that you need to be a well-run club with a clear underpinning strategy behind all decisions.

When Moshir came in, we were dreaming of success again and Europe; now, we're dreaming of either staying in the PL or returning to it as quickly as possible.

That's the size of the task at hand. It's going to take a good few years to clear the books, buy wisely (may take a few cycles of buying and selling on) and build.

I think he was asked to leave following his comments.
Subtle but important difference.

The decline under him hasn't finished yet, and there is no sign of any changes at the club to at least put a stop too it

Sick to death of this board open debate wether they meant to or not, either way you cut it's been disastrous outcome pitch side. That's the measure they will ultimately judged on being a football club not a business model for growth but football club and result rule. The new stadium is of little use in any league below. It's embarrassing having to read supporters support the board have us in perilous position like never before.
