The Everton Board Thread

Well there is two things wrong with this - for a start, neither Kenwright or DBB had any experience running a football club before they got their jobs, so to critique Bell and Downing for not having any is daft.

Secondly you can't argue this is "jobs for the boys" and also argue they have no experience.

Well you've jumped to the conclusion that they've got the job for a start.

Assuming they take it on they'll have no more or less experience than any of the previous board. It's fair to suggest they might only be considered for being blues but you don't have a clue if that's the only reason and neither do we.

If they're on the board for a financial governance capacity what level of previous football experience is required? Accounts and balance sheets will be what they're looking at. I'd expect they're probably shareholders themselves.

Jobs for the boys also referred to the control Kenwright exerted over all of the members he brought in. That's not a factor with these two.

I must have missed the reports that they're taking over scouting and transfers.

I'm sure they wouldn't be the only new board members if they did come so football experience will likely be coming from other members.

But weren't fan protests essentially aimed at removing the board for this very reason ? That they had no experience in running a PL club and we were lagging behind the rest ?

For me its an opportunity for the club to cast its net wide and bring in real quality but we seem to automatically go down the route of "local blues".

We need to be appointing football men who've ran clubs successfully. Not blokes who run a chain of sun bed shops or a building firm.
For the full context of how ignorant this is, Andy Bell founded a company named after himself which is managing 74 Billion pounds of assets.

George Downing owns Downing construction which owns and builds a large amount of Liverpool's commercial properties.

And Farhad Moshiri is a billionaire accountant managing assets for one of the richest men on the planet.

Hows that translated over to running a football club ?

I do wonder whether Bills words have stuck in Moshiris ear and they have both convinced MSP of the need to have local representation on the Board, if they do indeed come in. I really couldn’t care if the board members were born in L4 or not, I don’t care if they are blues, or not. They could come from Timbuktu for all I care. I just want the best people for the job, and I think there had to be a sprinkling of experience on the Board and I want the appointments to have been made via a fully diligent process. I just want some degree of competency basically.

No, the protests were aimed at removing the board because of their inexcusable performance.

The proof is in the pudding and they had failed us continuously. Their inexperience was assumed to be the reason but if they had done a fantastic job nobody would have been arsed.

"Cast the net far and wide" but you only want to consider people with previous football experience. Given where we are as a club right now anyone with previous experience we can attract will be someone who's likely been sacked for poor performance. If they aren't then it will be someone new and you'll complain that they're inexperienced or not good enough to stir the pot and WUM some more.

Give us five names beyond Purslow you want.

I haven't any - thats MSPs job.

I do expect more than 2 local blues with no football experience when we're crying out for an experienced hand particularly in the role of chairman.
