The Everton Board Thread

I am not sure of the intent of your post. Regardless of whether Villa is owned by a corrupt tyrant or not, it doesn't change my view on Usmonov or Moshiri. It is not an 'I have a bigger [Poor language removed] than you debate'.
However, Villa is owned by an Egyptian and an American. The Egyptian is the main shareholder and is the Chairman of Villa (V Sports). The American appears to be fairly aboveboard and doesn't have a dodgy history from what I can tell but any billionaire is open to some elements of a checkered past I am sure. He is a finance and investment guy so I am sure he has made a lot of people unemployed over his career. The Egyptian also looks to be aboveboard. However, he is a big player in the fertilizer business and I am always skeptical of people that make billions from natural resources. He is also the largest single shareholder of Adidas.
I support Villa but I am not going to support the owners if I discover they have a history of persecution or corruption.
Well THAT is my point. You're casting stones at our billionaire but your club is owned by one too (I didn't know about the Egyptian becsuse frankly, keeping abreast of other clubs politics bores me to my feet). But honestly, nationality is irrelevant, very few humans acquire that amount of wealth without greed, blinding ambition or ruthless selfishness. All billionaires acquire wealth by making others poorer so it isn't really worth getting on a high horse about.

reading some of the commments in this thread doesn’t half remind you off just how much the game has changed , used to be local businessman come good etc who owned the clubs now youv got oligarchs, dictatorships all
sorts in charge, we were crap when the premiere league started too but at least it was a lot simpler then, should never have been allowed all this

I was thinking the same. Since money has come into the game (collected from atmchair punters by sky), so have so many sharks that have only a passing interest in football or its history but cant help sniffing the money.

I think we as fans have to take our share of responsibility for it. We've at best turned a blind eye to it in the main, at worst we've celebrated it

Was having a pint with two Utd fans recently and they were talking about the Qatari takeover, one was dead against it the other was all for it.

So one says to other: "Okay you are protesting outside OT about the Qataris, a club director comes out and says we've just signed Mbappe on a 5 year deal, what would you do, never Utd watch play" - you could totally see the lad against the takeover wavering and thinking how boss that would be.

The truth of it is, we all have a moral and ethical threshold - but at the end of the day we are here to watch and support football and if there is a convenient truth we'l collude with it if it suits us.

The grim reality is that everyone's perception of the any owner is largely determined by on field performance.

Villa are doing better than usual right now so they see their owner in a positive light.

Utd have won everything under the sun under the glazers but as soon as they get taken over by City, Chelsea etc on the pitch then the glazers are awful.

Any owner is as good as the manager and the team on the pitch sadly.

true but you could say that about a lot of things clothes we wear in sweatshops iphones etc , they’ve took a simple working class sport and turned into this thing we’ve got today a plaything for billionaires , iv heard people say this type of thing for years about money ruining the sport but now i can defo see wot they mean

Fair enough although most of us don't have a choice with clothes as clothes not made in sweatshops are usually much more expensive. Protesting against a state with dodgy human rights records taking over your club doesn't cost anything

It's a bit human nature I guess. I've spent the last 20 years celebrating every time Man City to Chelsea stop the works from winning a trophy. But that's kind of what's led us to this position

no i don’t mean it’s bad about the protesting i mean the fact that it’s even a part of our sport now it’s ridiculous like really now this whole thing should have never been allowed to begin weather it be them glaziers taking over or abromovich

Still is at Everton (in terms of Kenwright at least but replace ‘come good’ with come lucky) - this is the issue alongside the fact he is narcissisti, selfish, arrogant and clueless. This has been the issue as to why we as a club have not developed with the modern game. Any other club and it’s certain relegation….it’s testament to the fans that this has not happened.

Glad he's leaving. Glad MSP have made it clear they won't invest until he's gone. Finally. A blight on the club removed. He needs to be completely gone, no honorary roles etc. Needs to be absolutely no involvement at all from BK once he leaves as chairman as not only does he not deserve it but he's a curse and will still meddle if given any sort of position of power/ influence. Clean break and be gone of the fool finally.

The is a significant difference between smart and aggressive business practices and theft and corruption. Usmonov and Mosiri are the latter.
