The Everton Board Thread

Surprisingly positive story about the fans so the PR crusade by the board isn't working fully
Superb that sums up the hopelessness of it all... Even if he does skate over aspects of the continuous mismanagement and head pat us a bit he has tapped into the deep despondency we have felt for decades if decline that has now reached tipping point.

Language is overly flowery in places but it is a positive interpretation of our grievances. His acknowledgement that it's not just a load of us moaning that we're not as good as were in the 80s is spot on. Huge number of fans weren't even born or too young to remember those times. It's not a sense of entitlement but the expectation that our club, with its huge fanbase, is run as best as it possible can be. That means owner, board, management and players trying their hardest to achieve as much as they can. If they did this we would not be staring relegation in the face. But they don't so we are. Nice to see a journo that isn't just spouting the same guff that they all copy and paste from each other.

It just doesn't sit right with me this "we will not be commenting on any historical events".

Now, it wasn't Everton who come out with the headlock headline. That was the Echo who said that's what they had been told. But Everton could have put the flames out of thay fire instantly and purposefully chose not to.

So they've chosen to sling plenty of mud at the fanbase and when they're pulled up on it they now decline to give clarity to accusations of threats and board safety?

I'm not having it at all.Theyve turned off all comms on social media in the hope this all just blows over.

He called out the clubs use (or misuse) of mates in the media. That is a big change in tone for me.

That's a lamentable article.

Patronising and dismissive of Everton in equal measure.

How can that be put forward as an insightful contribution to our situation?

He's a middle class dilettante who knows the square root of f.a. about Everton and he completely ignores the reality of new cash coming into the PL that can break open the league. He'd have said the same stuff about Newcastle a few years back...and look at what's happened.

A furiously and open anti-Everton piece that pats on the head a few Everton fans for their rhyming couplets on banners but essentially puts Everton in the bin.

Another take down piece that should be criticised not held up for commendation.

He's not an evertonian, though. You can't expect him to talk like an evertonian would. It is a view from outside. While it is written like a school creative writing essay, it does highlight some of the main issues between the fans and the board. I can't remember mainy journos who have openly called out the clubs favouring of pals in the media, so that's a good thing.

I expect a football writer to know that the PL he covers is not a closed shop where investment is concerned and that any club with a big fanbase can get it and break out of the box they've placed in. It happened to Chelsea, City and now Newcastle.

How on earth can a writer on a major newspaper not recognise that fact?

He's a psuedo-intellectual know nothing.

Sorry mate. Modern day football journalism is Jim white "you're a football fan, let's just talk about football. Are you excited about the new stadium?"

There's no genuine intellectual reporting on football anymore. Probably for the best as I'm still at a loss as to how the premier League is the only top European league not to have a high level corruption scandal uncovered in its entire 32 year existence. Couldn't possibly be because Rupert Murdoch was part of its formation?

Ahhh Dave.... wouldn't have expected you of all people to rail on a Guardian writer regardless of the context lol:coffee:

I'd argue the same point as I did with yo over Myres and the Echo breaking ranks a week or so ago.

Is it perfect? No... Far from it. Jonathan Liew loves the stink of his own [Poor language removed] and his writing style is awful patronising in every article.

But, it's a national newspaper with a global readership that is finally pointing out some of the long standing grievances a lot of the support has with the running of the club. (it was also discussed fairly on the Guardian football weekly pod.)

I'm really pleased it's in print and out there. Other will follow suit. The game is up.

Take these little wins mate.

Find it interesting to get an an ex failed football owners view on this.

He blames Moshiri and says he calls all the shots. However when told Kenwright etc should resign he believes why should they?

A complete contradiction. If the board have zero power why are they there? They're as culpable as the owner in allowing the ship to sink by indecision and poor decisions.

Just resign. Sharpy..resign... kenwright Resign. If not, why not?

Then they can do one about changing the narrative. It's as clear as day they have done.

"But those one level removed from the elite, your West Hams and Aston Villas and Hamburgs and Sampdorias, are essentially trapped in a doom cycle from which there are only really two escapes: relegation or an autocratic benefactor." ?!?
If City and Newcastle's owners don't fall under the 'Autocratic Benefactors' description then I'm not sure what else you would describe them as. Chelsea are where they are because of precisely that and we'll have to see if their new American owners can fill the void left by Abramovich. We have had 30 years of nothing since the 80s accept one FA Cup, and it was a bloody miracle that we managed to win that. We will only compete with these teams if we get shod of Moshiri and find ourselves our own shiny middle eastern state that wants to do a bit of sports washing or a random billionaire who wants to take a punt on us. (And this needs to be a billionaire with their own actual money).

Great article. At last a journalist with an alternative view, rather than the rest of the cowards.
