That’s not how journalism works - like it or not, the anonymous source was ever thus. Why can't he just say who gave them the info?
Has he apologised for liking his mate Hughes's Everton Slave Club articles? That’s not how journalism works - like it or not, the anonymous source was ever thus.
I’ve got a lot of time for Greg O’Keefe. The Athletic dropped a large one with the headline, but he apologised certainly to my satisfaction on that podcast.
Are journalists too close to the club? Yes, but that’s the game - at Everton and everywhere else.
Surely, when you're being officially briefed by the club, you can't throw in hearsay into an officially statement to give it more validity, though? That’s not how journalism works - like it or not, the anonymous source was ever thus.

I think the lack of professionalism is on the club’s end, really. That off-the-record briefing was part of the official comms strategy and it was wrong.Surely, when you're being officially briefed by the club, you can't throw in hearsay into an officially statement to give it more validity, though?
Journos shouldn't put out stories without basic fact checking or explicitly stating that "somebody has made allegations" and "there is no evidence yet". The fact that a club source chose to make off the record comments during an official press briefing needs to be called out. They all rushed to jump on the bandwagon. Asking for forgiveness after you've done the damage doesn't fix anything.I think the lack of professionalism is on the club’s end, really. His reasoning was how could anyone not report such an allegation, which is fair but when reporting you should report it as an allegation and not as fact as most journo's seemed to have doneDid he clarify as to why the story was published a couple of hours before kick off?

I didn't realise that you could hear us through the wall - sorryNothing against you of course, I’d rather listen to the obese couple next door shag than listen to that.
They knew what they were doing, arrogantly they didn’t expect such a backlash otherwise all involved would of reconsidered in the first place.
Was somebody holding a gun to his head ?
I honestly think they’re shocked Evertonians are unhappy at being demonised yet seem to think the response is to block them rather apologise. He specifically says the Echo did do this and didn't hear anything back but still they ran this headline.
What I'm wondering is when are they all going to be publishing their official retractions and apologies? I've yet to see one.
The attitude that all these journos who got played for a fool by Prenno seem to be putting out is "Yeah, we admit we ran a story and headline of dangerous allegations that painted the Everton support as violent thugs attacking board members on the prompting of our former boss but that's no reason to criticize us on social media".
