The binman chronicles
Player Valuation: £80m
"If we are run as a business" is a scary statement mate, the club is a business whether we like it or not, even the likes of Newcastle and City need to be run like a business. It's not one of the other. All I'd say is, when Everton were run more 'like a business', we got a hell of a lot closer to success than we have by splashing cash we don't have on bang average players.
As for administration, it's most certainly a realistic threat - this line is from our most recent accounts: "These matters indicate that a material uncertainty exists that may cast significant doubt over on the Group’s ability to continue as a going concern." - Moshiri had to provide a letter of support stating that he would support the club financially, but it isn't legally binding.
By business I mean someone gets something from it, people don't run businesses to be not for profit. Everton do not make a lot of profit and although income streams could be increased a bit we come to the chicken and egg scenario that you can't really have one first without the other. Unless we get taken over by a corporation that is dying to get their name in lights and sponsor the stadium for huge sums, the only way to increase profitability is to slash playing and non playing staff and every little corner possible.
Some of that of course is long overdue, some however is not. There will be no distinguishing of that fact and it will quickly feel like a totally different club - EitC, Goodison legacy all under threat etc. and just wait to see what the ticket prices will go to as they won't give a hoot about local support.
With so many clubs ahead in the pecking order I would like to know how you think we'll get any closer to success. Moshiri under Usmanov was to use umbrella sponsorships to provide more money (their own) to the club to invest in the playing staff. These will run us not too dissimilar to the Kenwright era but as said this time we have at least 7 clubs ahead of us.
Re administration, the accounts are forced to add that statement as we run at a loss that Moshiri has been covering for the most part. The point is would Moshiri stop paying and force administration thus devaluing anything he gets back? I don't think he would and seeing whose play money it was to start with I'm sure he could go without until we are sold.
