"The fans wanted him sacked"

RM is here for the long term. He will not be sacked, we won't be relegated and he won't resign.
He's had a poor season and been right royally assisted by poor individual performances from seasoned pro's and the inexperience of the next generation. It's part of the redesign of the squad and the playing ethos of a Club which simply can't splash cash on wholesale, rapid change. Why is it so strange to people that doing it through evolution rather than (financial) revolution takes time?

Evolution usually implies progression. He was supposed to evolve us from where we already were. Everyone could accept a dip, even into the bottom half, but a points tally that in most seasons would get you relegated was not on anyone's cards. This will be the biggest test of RM's career. He will never get another one like it. The one club in the premier league stable enough to allow him to destroy it and rebuild it but not ambitious enough to fire him for doing so. Any club below us would have sacked him already fearing for their safety, any club above us would have sacked him already for the opposite reason. We however have put all our chips in with Martinez in the hope that he is actually a genius. If it pays off then well done Everton, if it doesn't there'll probably be 19 other clubs saying I told you so. Whether people back him or not, what is indisputable is that this level of performance at any other premier league club would have seen him fired, indeed Villa, WBA, and Crystal Palace already pulled the trigger much earlier. We've not even comprehended the threat of relegation. Hope our confidence isn't misplaced. If Martinez ruins his blank canvas now then his career will be over. This is the perfect environment for him. If he can't get a decent team out of Stones McCarthy Barkley Lukaku with a chairman who is guaranteeing his job for anything other than relegation then he is not a good manager end of. His thoughts on how the game should be played will have been proven utterly wrong. If he stays, the next few seasons will show whether he really is a genius or a complete fraud.

4th highest net spend actually behind Utd, Arsenal and the [Poor language removed].....but that's totally out of context when you consider net spend over a meaningful period.
I reckon we'll get between 15-20 points, but hey, I'm an optimist.

Did he? I thought at the same stage as Martinez is now we ended up 17th?

I think this is going to be a reciprocal argument so let's just beg to differ.

Martinez took over a different team, in a different era, its pointless to compare them.

Lets just agree that we would rather the manager we had last season comes back.

So Howard came close to being sacked, thankfully he wasn't, but its daft to say that because we stuck with him and it paid of then we should stick with managers regardless just because we did it back then. Was it wrong to let Mike Walker go? or Walter Smith? just because we stuck with Howard and it paid off? Walker was doing well at Norwich so maybe just needed more time? I mean its not like Martinez has ever taken a club down and the football we play under him has all the hallmarks of being a winning formula if it wasn't for those fine margins....

And we still have around 30 points to play for this season. In comparison to the teams we were competing with last season we were at car boot level....it's all comparative. Utd for example spent massively as did Liverpool.
If you want Martinez out then fine, but at least see the situation with some clarity.
Not exactly
Last season, he took a team that was already 6th best before he arrived, added some very high value players, mostly on loan, and improved us by one place.

Clarity

Thought this was the Jeremy Clarkson thread until I saw which forum it was in...

Great video on history in not familiar enough with.

So true that, to hear some people go on about hijm you would think he took us from where we are now to 5th, if he had done that he deserves time, but he didnt, as you say one place, o and a win at Old Trafford.

Behave mate, it was more than one place, it was so much more. Some of the best performances ive seen from an everton side in 2 decades were last year. We very rarely looked the second best in games for most of our games last year, even the ones we got beat in we dominated play. And it was the entire feel about the club was drastically better

To be honest yeah your right, i agree that last year was fantastic and it was a different feel to the club, but don't forget prior to that we had over a decade between a dour negative manager, and Smith before that wasn't exactly a pleasure to listen to or watch Everton under, last season was something we had waited a long time for.
I just don't see that season as something Martinez can recreate.

Don't really think I am but I accept your point, despite it being wrong.

I'm actually basing it on the fact you reference last year muchly which - accepted - was ace, but it's all about the now Davey, for me, and I'm guessing for others too because the distance between then and today seems immeasurable somehow at the moment, such has been the fall.

So, if it's not about the now, it's about the 'way back when' & yada-yada-yada. And that's a trait belonging to next door, namely it doesn't matter because, frankly, it's gone...

Oh, and before you nip in and again - and agreed BTW - say we only need minimal points to stay safe etc. Well, it's not just about the points is it, it's the whole season, it's everything currently PL wise and I can't fathom why...

And as an aside, my little boy was watching this before, without prompt, so I lay down, watched it with him....rather wish I hadn't TBH.

But I genuinely hope the players do sometime soon, just as a reminder...

So it's the players as culpable as the manager?

Please someone tell me how it is as this thread doesn't bring me much clarity.

Thank you sirs. And madames.
