The Illicit Power of Our Overpaid and Underachieving Players

31.4% win rate for Newcastle in the prem, 31.6% in China and 31.8% here, the mans a busted flush, he’s finished as a a manager
Hopefully, he goes back to Newcastle.
Can you imagine the class of player he is going to fall out with after they start signing big names.
He must argue with himself in the mirror when he trims his beard.

Hilarious putting these 3 here considering ones injured, ones on another continent playing in a tournament and the other hasn’t played since the last game of last season

The other bolded point is utter bollocks, defensively we’ve been shocking because of a piss poor set up yet people like you still refuse to put any level of blame on the man behind the tactics

Yeah all the players are fine mate, I’m sure manager number 6 will have them all going well. Laughable delusion.

Which is the whole point. Carlo knew what the next steps were. Last season was the limit for that squad. Losing to Sheff United etc and having a shocking home record are areas you look to improve.

The minute Carlo went...that all went out the window.

It's not even about winning games under Raffa, is the manor of the losses. You could argue if we were losing by narrow margins, looked like a unit, but just didn't have the pieces to get over the line in a new system...seeds of change can be seen.

That didn't happen. 16 goals conceded in 7 games. 27 in 13. The basics weren't there

Again, can’t disagree. Benitez was the wrong appointment for so many reasons, even after a somewhat promising start.

But that said, the players need to be big in times of difficulty and rally and get better. Feels like they just threw the towel in once again, and I have no confidence until we gut the small minded players that we won’t get the same scenario in 12-18 months.

Ancelotti had 18 months and made a great difference, so I agree that Rafael basically undid it, but it’s not solely a Rafael problem, cause they’ve shown they can’t step it up by large for most managers.

Exactly, I guess my expectations are too high.

You’re right we were close, but then the players absolutely lost the plot. I’d be interested to see how many points we actually accrued across the entire 2021 calendar year.

The fact that these players were in the hunt for the Champions League and couldn’t step it up against the likes of Sheffield United with a highly respected manager in Ancelotti, speaks volumes. Why were they going to for a washed up Benitez?

But yeah, I agree we need to add but then rid ourselves of the mess. But who’s taking Michael Keane and the likes? How do you keep Mina fit? I wish it was as simple as you’ve made it, but this is deep rooted.
I can't find it, but I'm sure I read that over the last 38 games in the Premier league (ancellotti and benitez) we are rock bottom, that's a full league seasons number of games.
If its not correct, it has to be pretty near.

Nobody is saying the players aren’t partly to blame.
Stop trying to emulate Dave, you have been shown his managerial stats at his last 2 clubs, you know he’s a busted flush and completely had the club over.

Stop trying to be controversial for the sake of it FFS.

Did we not have a pretty sound defensive system last season? Especially at defending set pieces.
Until a certain French chappie was seen to be too honest, was this not the same core of defenders we have used this season?
What obvious point am I missing?

Think it has to be really doesn’t it?

2021 was an abysmal year for Everton Football club, 2022 has started the same but hopefully with Benitez sacking that should be about to change.

The Benitez/Ancelotti debate is bizarre. No individual with an IQ of more than 3 could possibly think Benitez even comes remotely close to Ancelotti in any way.

The end of last season was a joke - but Benitez has done his absolute best to destroy this club. He has sought to point fingers and fan the flames of division at absolutely every opportunity.

True.

The way I saw it is...we had one of the best managers in world football and he got 59 points. That's the maximum out of that squad.

Anyone else coming in will be a step down so it was either a rebuild or try and continue/improve on that.

I think we went down the continue and improve route with Benitez (he has been in the past a manager who follows after better Managers) and it's backfired as he's done at that level.

It's a rebuild now (we'll lose Richy or Dom in the summer). So we need to get someone who has that in them... anyone else we'll be here again.

I don't understand what Benitez can really do when professional footballers are making absolute basic errors like yesterday.
Keane and Coleman were shocking. Unless Benitez is standing on the goal line he can't stop either goal going in. The players need to take some responsibility.
