The Illicit Power of Our Overpaid and Underachieving Players

I don't understand what Benitez can really do when professional footballers are making absolute basic errors like yesterday.
Keane and Coleman were shocking. Unless Benitez is standing on the goal line he can't stop either goal going in. The players need to take some responsibility.
And yet they weren’t making nearly as many under Ancelotti because he laid a solid groundwork. The zonal marking never worked when other managers tried it so why in the hell did Benitez think it would?

We all knew that Rafael would never get the support when we hit a bad run, this is one of the main reasons we shouldn't have hired him plus his stint in China was a red flag but he managed to convince the board to take a chance on him rather then listening to the fans.

He made some bad decisions even a non football expert can see it wrong.

Playing Rondon
2 cms in midfield using gomes at times lol
Playing Coleman repeatedly then at lb cos he fell out with digne
Not protecting the defence who were struggling

But thank you for bringing Gordon through and bringing Gray in.

I get that but playing Coleman at lb cos he fell out with digne.

Not improving our defence set pieces.

Rondon starting against Norwich

These were all stubborn decisions. I've tried to back him and support him cos he was an Everton manager but he didn't help himself and made it hard to back him.

The only issue is these duds get another chance to impress the new manager which is becoming a farce

True.

The way I saw it is...we had one of the best managers in world football and he got 59 points. That's the maximum out of that squad.

Anyone else coming in will be a step down so it was either a rebuild or try and continue/improve on that.

I think we went down the continue and improve route with Benitez (he has been in the past a manager who follows after better Managers) and it's backfired as he's done at that level.

It's a rebuild now (we'll lose Richy or Dom in the summer). So we need to get someone who has that in them... anyone else we'll be here again.
Benitez bought Gray and Townsend which vastly improved the attacking options and we are far far worse

While I concur, in reality anybody selecting Keane, Coleman, Iwobi, Gomes, Holgate, or Davies is making a rod for their own back. Obviously, our squad is so poor you have to play some of them, but Coleman has no business in the side now as there are alternatives. Keane should be dropped when Mina is unavailable. Together, they are like Master-Blaster from Mad Max. Separated, we end up in the pig [Poor language removed] like an isolated Master.

I knew before I entered this thread that it was a huge mistake … yet curiosity got the beat of me and I clicked in.

Only dave could still try and justify his own opinion that Rafael should be here and was hard done by .

Just admit it dave … just once … even try saying it in your own head first .

Say it … “ I was wrong”

It doesn't matter what marking system you have. Coleman and Keane are not good enough.
There was no one anywhere near Keane when he scored the goal yesterday .

I can't find it, but I'm sure I read that over the last 38 games in the Premier league (ancellotti and benitez) we are rock bottom, that's a full league seasons number of games.
If its not correct, it has to be pretty near.

23 games from Jan 2021 to May 2021
Won 8. Loss 9. Drew 6.

19 games from Aug 2021 to now.
Wins 5. Loss 10. Drew 4.

Nobody is saying the players aren’t partly to blame.
Stop trying to emulate Dave, you have been shown his managerial stats at his last 2 clubs, you know he’s a busted flush and completely had the club over.

Stop trying to be controversial for the sake of it FFS.

It’s not controversial to say the players aren’t good enough. They aren’t. 5 managers some of them have been through now and because people hate Benitez so much there’re defending this group.

He wasn’t to know that though, first instinct is to cut out any crosses, it just diverted horribly the wrong side of the post

Something goes horribly wrong every single game though with Keane in the middle. We can't get a clean sheet when Keane plays. Its that simple

We got plenty with him last season though? Look had Mina managed to stay fit for the majority of the season then Keane maybe plays half the games he’s had

Good enough for what though? Higher than 10th? 15th?

They're certainly better than 15th with a relegation form of 1 win in 13. No other manager in the 5 years have hit Raffa levels of ineptitude.

You can throw around "not good enough" but they are capable of playing as a team and a unit. Just not under this manager due to the fact this manager is done at this level.

If the player can't do what the manager what's him to do...then you either sell, drop, or change to help him. Raffa did nothing.
