The Moyes legacy: reflections.

Any regret on being anti Moyes?

The thing with him is that he took that choice out of our hands. Doing deals behind our backs with United. Didn't matter whether we wanted him to stay or not.

On reflection, I'd have had either him or Martinez back at the start of this season though.
Do you think either would've came back?

The Moyes/Kenwright years at the time were so underated.
Were they? Moyes and Kenwright both dined out for years on plucky little Everton punching above its weight. In the press at least both have continued to enjoy goodwill and favourable dispatches largely because of that period and how it was viewed at the time.

Moyes wanted to leave and it had got a bit stale by that stage, the problem was the litany of bad decisions that followed.

Yeah they were but we wanted more, them European games were great, as was the battle to get them, but i agree the problem was the litany of bad decisions that followed made by Moshiri

Its natural to want progression off of what was a sound base. It was the greatest shame that the squad Moyes put together didn't win anything but expectation is healthy.

The Moshiri years have been a car crash. Can only hope we will rise again with hunger and fight like we had before.

I wonder if Moyes looks back in hindsight at leaving us. Utd job was a hiding to nothing and if he had been in charge with Moshiris money he would have spent wisely. We will never know I guess.

Moyes was both of the best and worst things to happen to Everton Football Club. His work was fantastic during most of his time here. He built two great teams on the budget of a freddo and gave the club somthing like dignity again after the 90's. At the same time (and though almost no fault of his own) he pushed the plucky little Everton against the world mentality that made people not only accept mediocrity but almost embrace it. He acted as a shield for our horrible rancid chairman who has dined out on his appointment ever since. He wouldn't of kept us up this season and that's not a reflection on him at all because mo manager can fix this team or make them care.

I held no animosity toward Moyes for leaving for United, I also think it was an opportunity to move forwards for the club.

Moyes wouldn’t have done what Martinez did the following season and Martinez wouldn’t have done it without Moyes’ defence, I really liked Martinez and would have stuck with him - he had big defensive problems but we were very capable going forwards - at least it was just the defence that needed fixing then - I do accept however that he probably had to go when he did but in retrospect… maybe not?

If there’s blame it’s Kenwright’s, he gave Moyes nothing to stay for, he should have secured investment far earlier than he did and I don’t believe the waffle that investors weren’t there - if moshiri had arrived sooner I think Moyes might have stayed.

Ultimately I didn’t want Moyes back but would have happily taken him over Koeman, Allardyce, Benitez and Lampard (I thought Marco would work out…)
