Valid point, but which appointment wouldnt split the fanbase though eh? They will look at his experience, saving West Ham, coming back and taking them to Europe. I think it just ticks all the boxes.

Bet they wont even know we’re split over Moyes when they look at the job he’s done here last time.
Someone who didn’t call the fan base a disgrace when he was at United would be a good start.

From a risk based perspective Moyes would be a sensible short term choice

He’s got a proven track record of moving bottom half clubs up the league into European qualification even with financial constraints, as evidenced by his time at Everton and United.

He knows the PL, the club, and how to battle in the bottom half so removed the whole Kompany/Martin scenario of a manager playing football a squad can’t execute.

If in two and a half seasons he had us back up challenging for Europe whilst our financial issues continue to be washed through then I’d imagine most would see this as a successful bridging period for another manager to then pick up.

The major problem is some of the fanbase just won’t have anyone who fits a certain profile (old, British, pragmatic, been in PL before, can actually organise a defence), so they’ll be protesting Moyes before he even got through the door.

The downside of any appointment is huge at the moment (e.g relegation) the upside is limited, we’re not crashing the top 4 with this squad regardless of who is manager and the difference between the league positions below is not club defining compared to being relegated.

Therefore unless the Friedkin can attract a superstar name (e.g a Mourinho) who would guarantee results, then I could easily see them making a risk based decision on someone like Moyes for the short term. They’ve got an investment to protect that is still a precarious one until we can improve the squad quality massively.
I think fundamentally for where we are, we are going to have to have a tiered strategy for the recruitment of managers. Each tier containing a level of obtainable managers for that positional range that carry a skill set which see us gradually move up the table.

I’ve seen people mention Mancini etc, be very surprised he’d take charge of a team in 15th with limited spending power. He’d be in a higher tier etc, but for where we are now, Moyes would be a contender amongst other names (just not sure who they would be)

Agreed. The last thing we need is paying a manager who doesn’t want to be here and is only here for the money and spends all their time complaining about having bottom half players. They have to be a pragmatist and work with what we have.

It's a fair rationale. My question would be, how much more would Moyes do than Dyche?

I’m not sure he is, he has a relegation on his CV with Sunderland, may as well go back to Big Sam. We need a fresh start and the next Moyes if anything, not the original coming back. 😄
I dont even want Moyes (but I reckon we would be safe with him) but sadly I can’t see it being anybody else.

They just hired 75 years old Ranieri for his third spell at Roma.

I rate Moyes higher, but perhaps it’s just a freshness question. If the manager change happens end of season then it would be a new start for the players with hopefully some new signings. If it happens mid season then it’s just that bounce you’d be looking for.

Moyes looks to build around footballers like Osman Arteta Pienaar etc. there’s a lot of myths about his time with us and his style that just aren’t true. If we added a few ball playing midfielders and forwards along side Garner Ndiaye with this defence behind then I think Moyes would steer that ok for a few seasons.

It took Moyes a long time to bring those players in though mate. On a short term basis I think he's quite similar.

I’m predicating this around an assumption that we’ll see a modest increase in expenditure in the summer window with either a few players added or a big overhaul if Branthwaite is sold.

It’s a much different scenario than the one we’ve been in last few years which is sell to loan/buy cheap. I’d trust Moyes to identify and handle those players more than I would Dyche. Whilst both Moyes and Dyche can do the job we brought Dyche in for (keep us in the league whilst we asset strip to balance the books) if we’re effectively winding the clock back to 06-09 I’d trust Moyes more with that than Dyche.

Lot of panic about nothing re getting Moyes in. We need to get rid of Dyche ASAP but the league is garbage, any half decent coach/manager will keep us up. Plus we can make some signings in January. Personally I’d give Carsley a go. Very good coach, good man manager, plays fast attacking football, tactically aware and knows the club and fans.
