As far as I can see Carsley has never been an appointed manager of a club side, caretaker manager for short periods in lower divisions. Surely that would be a massive risk in our current, seems to have lasted forever, predicament.
Evertonians love a link to the past. They simply cannot resist choosing from the handful of people with past Everton connections in a whole wide world of coaching possibility.

No wonder we are in decline as a club when we choose so incestuously from such a shallow gene pool.

Carsley is a weird one, did well with England U21’s, no shame with England senior, but never gave off the impression he really backed himself as a manager. Was too happy to not take on the England job. Not sure how he’d handle being the face of Everton more than just a coach.

Everton is an extremely difficult job with a lot of pressure but it's still not as intense as the England job.

I have no idea if he would be a good Everton manager but I don't read too much into half a dozen games as a caretaker at international level

It’s not about his ability in those games; it’s his approach to the prospect of the job. He didn’t seem comfortable in the press conferences and managing a national youth side is so much less involved than club manager. I think he’d be a good coach here but maybe not a manager.

Only a tiny sample size but he also got an embarrassing titty lip with the media after one very bad performance. Good luck with that here with Shamoon asking him how amazing he thinks Liverpool are.

Obviously part of gaining experience, but our current position really isn’t suited to learning on the job. If knob end had seen out a few more wins, we could have made a brave manager choice as soon as TFG are in. Our league position has made the choice a huge gamble, weighing up short term survival and future growth. They’ll panic if we lose the next 2 and plump for safety. And we’ll be back here next December
