The obsession with Broja

Can someone explain to me the forums obsession with Armando Broja?

His name is mentioned over and over again and he's talked about as this great hope that will solve all of our striker woes, but what has he done to warrant all of this? He scored a handful of goals for Southampton last season and has done nothing of note for Chelsea, so why all the hype?

It feels a bit like he's been setup for a massive fall before he's even signed, or a massive fume and a stick to beat the board/manager with when he doesn't sign, why are we so obsessed with what appears to just be another bog standard Chelsea youth cast off? He was also born in Slough so isn't the fancy import that I suspect a lot of people bizarrely think lends weight to him being a superstar.

I thought it was worth a separate discussion rather than clogging up his transfer thread, someone educate me and convince me you've not just been duped by a fancy name.
have to agree...he's alright. Started well for Soton then did next to nothing. A bit of raw talent and a presence up front but we should be going for someone with a bit more surity of what we are getting imo
He's still better than the block of wood that played last night though so I wouldn't turn my nose up at this stage if we got him

So because he from slough he’s not going to be a superstar, it’s just another day in The Office as far as you’re concerned?

Desperation!

Been having a glance through that thread, a couple of random assessments:

Chelsea would be making a ridiculous decision if they were to sell Broja. He has pace, power and the ability to pull a goal from nothing. Similar to Lukaku, but Lukaku has had four attempts at reputably major clubs and has only been successful at one of them, Inter, where the slower game suits him more. I think Broja has much better technical ability than Lukaku and is better on the ball. If we were to sign Broja and avoiding any buy back clauses, which there probably will be, I reckon we could sell him for £100m+ if his trajectory continues and the timing is right for contracts.

No way will Chelsea sell Broja at this stage. He looks absolute class already and his value will only increase. He may eventually end up as part of their squad. I think an extension of the loan deal to the end of next season may be our best hope. That would probably suit all parties.

What really stands out flicking through that, though, is that the whole thing is basically a discussion of whether or not they might be able to get him on a second season loan or even permanently. They clearly rate him.
